The Ninth Grade Academy was established to ease the transition from middle school to high school and address what is known as "The 9th Grade Shock." This term refers to the significant decline in academic performance that many students experience upon entering high school. The transition involves adjusting to a larger school environment and more rigorous coursework, which can be overwhelming. Research shows that students who pass the ninth grade on time are more likely to graduate, while those who are retained face a much higher risk of dropping out (KQED).
Our Academy acts as a bridge to support students through this critical year, following a model where students are in smaller cohorts and teachers meet weekly to discuss and support their progress. Extra supports are in place for students who need additional assistance. Our goal is to have our scholars Finish in Four! Together, we can achieve this.
