Lori Clark performs Arabic dance in numerous venues in the Washington, DC area under the professional name Yasmina. She holds a Master’s Degree in Dance from American University. Lori also performs Flamenco dance for the WPAS Concerts in Schools program, and is frequently seen as a member of the corps de ballet of the Washington Opera.
Tammy Hurt, a native Washingtonian, started her dance training at the Jones-Haywood School of Ballet and later became a member of the Capitol Ballet Company under the direction of Doris Jones and Claire Haywood. After an extensive dance career with some of the greatest choreographers of the times such as Louis Johnson, Kevin Jeff, George Faison, Hinton Battle, and Mike Malone, to name a few, Ms. Hurt decided to devote her life to teaching and spent several years as an Adjunct Teacher at Howard University, 10 years as the Director of the Jones-Haywood School of Ballet, 20 years teaching in the DCPS system and multiple decades teaching ballet and pointe in and around the DMV. Most recently, Ms. Tammy was the Director of Community Outreach at Collage Dance Collective in Memphis, Tennessee. She joined The Washington School of Ballet SE Campus as a faculty member in September 2021 before taking on the role as Principal.
As the Principal for the SE Campus, Hurt works with the School Director to ensure the artistic success of its students and faculty.
Alvin Mayes is the Head of Dance Performance and Scholarship at the University of Maryland. His research involves making dance for diverse communities. In summers 2012 & 2013 with the support of the Greenbaum Charitable Foundation, he took a residency at Escuela de Danza Ceibadanza and the Dance Company Ceibadanza in Manta, Ecuador, where he created Los Ojos Sobre Manabí which was adjudicated to appear in XI Festival Internacional “Fragmentos de Junio” 2013 in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Mayes has created more than 150 dances at the UMD, many of which were selected for the Choreographers Showcase, Kennedy Center and Dance Place performances. He regularly choreographs for the Maryland Youth Ballet and Montgomery College in Rockville. Some of his choreographic awards include Gold Medals at the World Cup and Maccabi Games, the Pola Nirenska Award for Life Achievement in Dance, Outstanding Service Award by Maryland Council of Dance, and Distinguished Scholar-Teacher Award for the Center of Teaching Excellence at the University of Maryland.
Darryl T. Pilate II
Originally from Texas, Darryl Pilate begins his eighteenth year in dance education as the Dance and Theatre Specialist for Baltimore County Public Schools. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Dance with a minor in Health Administration from Texas State University and a Master of Business Administration from Texas Woman's University. He studied various dance artists across ballet, jazz, Hawkins technique, hip-hop, and contemporary. Darryl Pilate has taught at several middle and high schools, choreographing a wide range of dance styles. Since 2022, he has served as the Artistic Director of Light Switch Dance Theatre. Darryl is currently President of the Maryland Dance Education Association (2024-2026) and Board Member (Northeast Region) (2026-2028) for the National Dance Education Organization.
Devon Wallace: Trained both in the studio and the streets since his teenage years, Devon “Steel Toe” Wallace is a versatile and energetic dancer, choreographer, and performing artist who has become an invaluable asset to all whom he has worked with. Originally trained in the basics of jazz, contemporary and commercial choreography, the breadth of his dance knowledge has expanded to include many styles such as African, House, Locking, Hip-Hop Freestyle and Stepping. His talents and versatility have allowed him to work continuously with Professional Baltimore-based Theater Arts Company, ArtsCentric, holding principle roles in projects such Alice in Wonderland: A Danc-ical, Snapshots: A Dancical, and DreamGirls.
He has participated in many showcases and competitions, making a name for himself in the DMV area through his high-energy movements and style. Devon is a founding member of the DMV dance crew Delicious Lawn Gnomes (DLG). He has also trained in Tae Kwon Do with Master Robert C. McDuffie of DC Dragons Training Center, allowing him to maintain a lead role in the dance and martial arts fusion company Dancarate’ run by LaTisha McDuffie. Devon works as a professional flash mob choreographer and coordinator and has credits with many upcoming and established music artists, including Nefertiitii, Devin White, Kim Scott, Chuck Brown, Adnan Sami and Darren “The Soul Entertainer” Smith.
Devon teaches in many in-school and after-school programs for the youth, such as the Little Friends for Peace organization and the Barrie School in Silver Spring, MD. He has recently worked very closely with Adrienne Clancy’s ClancyWorks company, furthering his commitment to bringing the benefits of dance to the younger generation. He is a member of two professional DMV-based dance companies: Soul in Motion, an African dance and drumming company led by Micheal Friend, and BMore Houseful, a house dance company led by DMV House legend, Esperonto Bean. Devon is an insatiable student of dance whose mission is to share his infectious energy and talents with as many people as possible, whether it be on the stage, on the dance floor or in the streets.
