MCAP Testing
The Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) assessments of Maryland College and Career Ready Standards (MCCRS) will build a pathway to college and career readiness by the end of high school, mark students’ progress toward this goal from grade 3 through high school, and provide teachers with timely information to inform instruction and provide student support.
This is the Maryland state website which allows students to practice for their upcoming exams. Please click the link above to view the practice activities.
Students need to complete the following MCAP exams as a graduation requirement along with the associated courses. Below are listed the course they will take and the name of the section on the practice test which it is associated.
English 10 = English Language Arts
Algebra 1 = Mathematics
Local, State, National Government (LSN) = Social Studies
Biology & Life Science = MISA
Students and parents need to speak with their Professional School Counselor to determine if the student has been waived from theses tests due to CoVid 19.
TEST DATES SY' 2024
Laurel High School will begin school-wide MCAP Testing. Students must bring pgcps-issued Chromebook for testing.
The exam for English 10 is a graduation requirement. It will be administered over two days on May 15 and May 16.
The exam for Algebra I is a graduation requirement. It also will be administered over two days on May 15 and May 16.
Students in both Algebra 1 and English 10 will take the English 10 test first and Algebra 1 on make-up day the following week.
The exam for LSN Government is a graduation requirement. It will be administered on May 13th.
The exam for Biology is a graduation requirement. It will be administered on May 17th.
Students that are scheduled to take MCAP and an IB or AP, will take the MCAP on MAKE-UP day.
Seniors ONLY who still need to take the Algebra 1 and English 10 tests will be administered over two days on April 23rd and April 24th.
Seniors ONLY who still need to take the LSN Government test will be administered on May 1st.
Seniors ONLY who still need to take the Biology test will be administered on May 2nd.
Here are some gentle reminders for exam day
1. Get a good night's sleep the night before
2. Eat a good breakfast before the exam.
3. Arrive at school on time.
4. Bring a writing utensil and headphones for the exam as resources for each are scarce.
5. Finally, it is imperative that you finish all exams to the best of your ability this year as that state is making significant changes to graduation requirements next year.
