Practice consistently
Practice with the intent to get better
Understand that sometimes progress will be slow
Understand that an 'A' is never enough
Understand that your failures are times to learn, grow, and progress
Eliminate whatever distractions you can (social media, TV, music, etc.)
Practice in as quiet an area as possible
Make sure that your instrument is in good, working condition
Make sure that you have all necessary accessories (reeds, neckstrap, valve oil, mallets, etc.)
Take it easy on yourself.
Expect to 'get it' the first or second try
Practice with distractions
Give up
Forget to clean your instrument
Forget to maintain your instrument
Forget to speak up if something doesn't sound or feel right with your instrument
Forget to tell your parents when supplies begin to run low
Ignore the experience and advice of more experience musicians
