What is Title I?

Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended (ESEA) provides financial assistance to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards.

Schoolwide Title I Funding

According to the U.S. Department of Education, a schoolwide program (SWP) is a comprehensive program designed to upgrade the entire educational program in order to improve achievement of the lowest-achieving students.

Title I Focus School

Definition:

  • A Title I Focus School is defined as a school that has the largest within-school gaps between the highest-achieving subgroup or subgroups and the lowest-achieving subgroup or subgroups or, at the high school level, has the largest within-school gaps in graduation rates (“within-school-gaps” focus school)

Our School's Focus Area

  • Due to the large gap between between our highest-achieving subgroup, Asian students, and our lowest achieving subgroup, students with Limited English Proficiency (LEP), our school receives additional funds with the sole purpose of closing this achievement gap.
