Dear Staff, Parents, and Students,
I am excited to welcome you back for SY 2025-2026! Whether you are returning or joining us for the first time, I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable summer break. I am optimistic and enthusiastic about the opportunities ahead as we begin a new academic year.
At General James Gholson Middle School, we are committed to creating an environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. This year, we will focus on providing a safe and orderly environment, academic excellence, building a positive school culture, fostering inclusion, and raising student achievement. We will work to ensure that each student feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
I look forward to seeing all of you at Back to School Night and working together to make this year our best yet. Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our students and school community. Together, we can make School Year 2025-2026 a year of growth, achievement, and joy.
Best wishes for a successful year ahead!
Please be sure that your child is adhering to the GJGMS Uniform Policy.

Bottoms: All students are expected to wear khaki bottoms. Sweaters/Sweatshirts and Light Jackets: All students may wear sweaters, sweatshirts, and light jackets in the color pertaining to their grade level exclusively. As we start the new year, here are a few important updates and reminders to ensure a smooth transition:
New School Schedule: Our school day will begin at 8:10 am and end at 3:00 pm. Please ensure students arrive on time to maximize their learning experience.
Safety Protocols: Our students' and staff's health and safety remain our top priority. We will continue to follow protocols such as washing our hands before exiting the bathroom, not sharing food and drinks, and using water dispensers in the cafeteria. Detailed information can be found on our website.
Curriculum Enhancements: We are excited to announce several new curriculum initiatives to engage and challenge our students. We will work with numerous educational vendors to build teacher capacity and improve student achievement.
Extracurricular Activities: Our school offers many clubs, sports, and after-school programs. I encourage all students to explore their interests and get involved. More information on sign-ups will be provided in the coming weeks.

SY 25-26 Student Referral
General James Gholson's services referral form is used because we are committed to supporting every student’s success and want to ensure we have the right resources to meet your child's needs. Below is the link for a referral form that needs to be filled out. This form gathers essential information about the scholar and the areas where additional support may be needed.
After the form is submitted, our school support team will review the information. We develop a personalized plan that addresses the expressed needs. This plan may include additional resources or services tailored to support their growth and success.

Dr. Poteat,
Dear Students and Parents, Students who desire to eat breakfast should report directly to the cafeteria between 8:10 and 8:30 am. If they do not want breakfast, sixth graders are invited to go to Room A-115 with Mrs. Williams until 8:20, then report to their lockers and Mod One. After 8:30 am, all walkers and car riders should report directly to lockers and class. Between 8:30 am and 8:45 am, the students who arrive at school on a late bus are allowed to get a grab-and-go breakfast.
LOCKERS and UNIFORMS:
All students in Grade 6 have been instructed to store their hoodies, jackets, and backpacks in the lockers. The color for sixth grade is BLUE (navy or royal blue is acceptable). No sweaters or jackets with hoods will be worn in the school building. All jackets stored in Dr. Poteat’s office need to be picked up at the 4th nod locker transition.

Cell phones are to be put away.
All cell phones and personal electronic devices (PEDs) must be POWERED OFF AND PUT AWAY during the school day.

Click here to access grades, attendance and more!
Beginning with the 2024-25 school year, Synergy will replace SchoolMAX as the student information system for Prince George's County Public Schools. Families will now use ParentVUE, in place of Family Portal, to access important information about their students.
ParentVUE is the portal that allows parents and guardians to view information about their student, including classroom assignments and scores, attendance, transcripts, graduation status and more. In ParentVUE, families can also update their phone numbers and emergency contact information and access the Online Registration (OLR) Application.
Learn more about ParentVue here.
