Dear Students and Parents/ Guardians:


Welcome to our 2022-2023 school year. I pray you and your family are safe and well during these trying times our nation is continuing to experience. We are excited to welcome each of you back and look forward to an awesome year.

Our school system’s mission is, “To provide a great education that empowers all students and contributes to thriving communities.” The staff and I are filled with excitement as we prepare to start this year and look forward to achieving this mission with your support. Know that we are all in this together and will support one another through this journey.


In preparing for the new school year, there are a few important facts to remember. Please take note of the following:


SCHOOL BEGINS Monday, August 29, 2022. All students should be ready for in-person learning, WITH MASKS. Classroom assignments and codes will be available on the website by the week of August 24th. SAVE THESE DATES


ALL NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION will be held in person on Friday, August 26, 2022. Transportation will be provided for Middle School students ONLY. Class lists will be available on SchoolMAX.

  • All Kindergarten and Sixth-grade students, along with any NEW students to Thomas Pullen.

  • Kindergarteners from 9 AM - 12 PM; Middle School 9:15 AM - 12:55 PM (More details to follow)

  • Please complete the documents below and return them at Orientation or the First Day of School

CPVA Monitoring & Exiting Agreement {AP 6144.1}


An informational session for all new students. We will have a Parent Town Hall Meeting for all parents on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at 6 PM.

IMMUNIZATIONS for your child’s grade are due by the 1st Day of School, August 29th. Please see https://www.pgcps.org/offices/school-health/immunizations/state-immunization-law for a list of only required immunizations by grade which is required by the state of Maryland. Free immunization clinics can be found at https://www.pgcps.org/offices/school-health/immunizations/upcoming-clinics

SUPPLY LISTS Material distribution for NEW students will be the week of August 24 - 27th.

*If you are in need of assistance in obtaining any of these items please contact the Main Office, Administrators, or Principal. Arts teachers may have additional required supplies.


SCHOOL HOURS are 9:15 A.M. until 3:55 P.M.


SCHOOL MEALS The meals will include breakfast and lunch. The costs of meals are Breakfast -$1.60, Lunch- $2.75, and Milk-$.55. Each student will be assigned a new PIN number. This PIN is the same account number for breakfast and lunch. Parents may submit funds to student accounts up to $99.99 in one of two ways: cash or prepay for student meals online by visiting www.myschoolbucks.com


Students who were eligible for free or reduced meal plans during the 2021-2022 school year will be eligible for the same plan until August 26, 2022. To continue with the free or reduced meal plan for the 2022-2023 school year, a new application must be completed and submitted for approval immediately.

ITEMS FOR PURCHASE can be paid through www.myschoolbucks.com {School Store> filter Thomas Pullen> category if applicable} again this year. Please wait for the appropriate forms with the listed costs before paying payments. Due to the pandemic, this is the most efficient way of handling monetary transactions. NO PERSONAL CHECKS.


BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT will be held virtually on Tuesday, September 13th, 6 P.M. for kindergarten - fifth-grade students - Team A & B, and Tuesday, September 15th, 6 P.M. for sixth thru eighth-grade students - Team C/Arts. Class lists will be posted on our website the week of the 24th.


SCHOOL VISITORS: All visitors are REQUIRED to make an appointment prior to visiting the building. Appointments can be made by either calling the school or emailing. At the time of visit, please follow the following guidelines:

  1. A mask is REQUIRED.

  2. A government-issued photo ID must be provided to the front office for scanning through Raptor, our visitor management system. A Raptor system badge must be worn for the entire school visit. All visitors must sign out with the front office at the conclusion of the visit.

  3. Visitors are allowed to ONLY have 1 person accompany them inside the building. All other persons will be required to remain outside the building.


UNIFORMS: ALL students are REQUIRED to dress appropriately. We encourage students to refrain from wearing pajamas and hoodies.


Our goal is to help keep our parents informed as well as help parents be a part of their child's education. Throughout the year, we will provide you with monthly online newsletters, call-outs, and Class Dojo messages. Please be sure to connect with your child’s teacher for daily communication. Be sure your home or cell number is current throughout the year to receive important updates and reminders. Stay Connected with us by using the following platforms:

ALL school correspondence will be communicated electronically.


The entire staff welcomes you and your child as part of the Thomas Pullen Academy family and hopes that we can successfully work together to meet their educational needs.
