For the 2020-2021 School Year:

  • The Preliminary SAT (PSAT 8/9) will be used as part of the entrance criteria for Specialty Programs, including Aerospace Engineering and Aviation Technology.
  • Testing will occur for grade 8 students the week of December 2, 2019 at their boundary school. ALL PGCPS grade 8 students will be considered for the Aerospace Engineering and Aviation Technology program.
  • Non-PGCPS students who take the PSAT 8/9 at their private schools between September and November of 2017 may use these scores for the application.
  • College Board regulations state that students may not sit for the PSAT 8/9 more than one time within a six month time period.
  • Private school and home-schooled students who submit an application will take the assessment on Saturday, December 7, 2018.
  • 8th grade students currently enrolled in PGCPS DO NOT pay for the PSAT 8/9.

Prince George's County Public School High School Specialty Programs Include:

  • Science and Technology
  • Academy of Health Sciences @ PGCC
  • Aerospace Engineering and Aviation Technology @ DuVal HS

All three programs are serviced by the same test, but the acceptance criteria differs. This year, applications for the programs will be processed online. Grade 8 and 9 students may apply for the Science and Technology Program and the Aerospace Engineering and Aviation Technology @ DuVal HS. Only grade 8 students may apply for the Academy of Health Sciences @ PGCC

Testing Dates:

  • Week of December 2, 2019 (All PGCPS Middle School Students)
  • December 7, 2019 (Grade 9, Private School, and Home-Schooled Students) at DuVal High School

Registration:

The last day to register for the PSAT 8/9 is November 15, 2019 for private school students and students currently enrolled in grade 9. For more information: PGCPS Department of Testing, Research and Evaluation

Admission:

The scores from the PSAT 8/9 along with grades in English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies from the four quarters of the previous school year (in some cases trimester) and the first grading period of the current school year are combined to create a total score. Parents may use the SchoolMAX Family Portal to view the grades used in the formula. The total score provides the basis for selection to the High School Specialty Program. This year, we project that over 10,000 students will be tested for possible entrance into the Aerospace Engineering and Aviation Technology Program. There are 150 seats available for each incoming 9th grade class.
