Service Learning Hours

ALL STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO EARN 24 HOURS OF SERVICE HOURS TO GRADUATE

Students who wish to have a half day in the fall are required to have 24 hours completed prior to requesting a half day.

FAQ: Where can I obtain Service Hours?

Community Centers, churches/places of worship, soup kitchens, at school/DuVal, community events, etc. Any place that you can help the community without earning a paycheck/money. Helping the community means the community, it does not mean you can babysit your cousin and earn service hours. You can even earn service hours by doing activities at home/online, like writing cards to patients at a hospital/senior center/etc.

The counseling department will also send out opportunities, as we are made aware of them, by email. PLEASE CHECK YOUR EMAIL REGULARLY FOR THESE UPDATES.

FAQ: How do I turn in hours?

You have to complete a form that you can find here and then you must turn it into your counselor. You can leave it in the grey box at the front of the Guidance office, or email it directly to your counselor. PLEASE NOTE, THE HOURS HAVE TO HAVE BEEN OBTAINED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF YOU TURNING IN THE FORM. EX: YOU CANNOT TURN IN HOURS EARNED FROM YOUR FRESHMAN YEAR AT THE BEGINNING OF YOUR SENIOR YEAR - IT IS TOO LATE TO COUNT THOSE HOURS.

FAQ: Where can I see how many hours I have?

You can check in SchoolMax at any time under "Community Service Hours".

FAQ: How long will it take for my hours to be processed once I turn in my form?

Please allow counselors time to input your hours once the forms have been received. Depending on the time of the year, processing time may vary - please contact your counselor if you do not see your hours in SchoolMax one week after turning in your form.
