CTRL + CREATE is the graphic arts lab at Charles H. Flowers High School. Its a collaborative makerspace that aims to immerse students in the world of multi-media art through real-world application and project-based curriculum.
Wagwan loves, I'm excited to teach you all I know about the real world of graphic design! I studied Art & Design at Howard University, spent some time interning at the Prague Post in CZ, was highlighted as a Top Student-to-Watch by Creative Quarterly, contributed to major publications like USA Today and The Tennesseean, led a youth arts magazine non-profit Kid-Ex and more, before becoming a freelance graphic designer.
I became an art teacher because there aren't enough people that look like me in these spaces. Not because we don't deserve to be there, but because of the lack of information about career trajectory that parents of minority creatives can support.
This year, I'm most excited to incorporate Lab Leaders, where scholars can get assistance from peers to alleviate some of the technical anxiety when learning new tools. Hopefully this will provide community so scholars feel confident in developing and expressing their creative voices while applying design skills they learn here in any career.

Thanks to a generous donation, you helped us get new computer lab chairs! Now, our students are ready to create, but the lack of security hinders the efficiency of our lab. Use this link to learn about The Case of the Sticky Fingers and help us reach our goal.
