Hello, I am Karima Al-Bari Smaw, but you can call me Ms. A. I am the Construction Design Management Program coordinator and sole instructor. I also teach one course of Foundations of Technology. This is my sixth year here at Bowie H.S. I am a graduate of MSU, where I received my BS in civil engineering. I have continued to further my professional development by enrolling into the the Fall Semester to begin the journey of obtaining my Master's Degree in Career and Technical Education.
Prior to becoming a teacher at Bowie High School, I worked as a Project Engineer at Clark Construction, LLC and then later at McCullough Construction, LLC. I have gained experience with teaching AutoCAD and Revit (Autodesk Architecture) software. I also strive to educate my students in the roles and career paths for studying Construction Design Management. Although I have extensive knowledge in CDM, I have always had a passion to teach and give back to my community through mentoring and tutoring.
I began my career in education with PGCPS working as a long term substitute and Additional Adult Support in the Special Education department. Moving forward, I was hired full-time as an ISEA (Itinerant Special Education Assistant) at Eleanor Roosevelt High School. In 2016, I became the ONLY Certified Teacher in Prince George's County to teach courses in Construction Design Management, at Bowie high School.
In addition to my professional accomplishments, I am a loving mother of two beautiful girls. As a parent, I understand that sometimes you need to think out of the box to find other resources for your student's education.
