Meet the Director

Samuel Ambrose turns back-row tuba playing into frontline artistry, bringing high-caliber style to performances, outreach, and educational experiences. His sound supports a variety of ensembles, most recently with Capital Wind Symphony. Sam has also performed for the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, Augusta Symphony Orchestra, and the Sunrise Pops Orchestra, and actively freelances in the DMV area. When he is not performing in the concert hall, Sam enjoys traveling to explore new food spots, music venues, and hiking trails.

As an educator, Dr. Ambrose’s teaching ranges from private instruction to master classes, clinics, and ensemble instruction. He currently teaches Instrumental Music at University Park and Hyattsville Elementary Schools. He is a co-Founder/Director of Program Development/Tuba Faculty for the Brass Institutes of America, a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to bringing high-caliber brass performances and educational opportunities to underserved communities. He has also worked with many Drum Bugle Corps,high school, and WGI groups throughout the country.

Sam currently lives in College Park, MD. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Tuba Performance at the University of Maryland, received a Master's degree in Tuba Performance from The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, and a Bachelors of Music Education degree from Florida State University. His teachers include David Fedderly and Paul Ebbers.
