MESSAGE FROM DR. BELL
Dear K - 2 Accokeek Academy Families!
Can you believe we are already heading into the final few weeks of the school year? It feels like just yesterday we were welcoming your children through our doors for the first day of school. Since then, our Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders have grown immensely, not just in height, but in their confidence, kindness, and love for learning.
As we wrap up these last few weeks, our classrooms are still buzzing with energy and excitement. We are focused on finishing the year strong, celebrating our achievements, and enjoying every moment together.
Summer is a wonderful time for families to relax, reset, and create lasting memories together. Whether you are planning family trips, exploring local parks, or just enjoying slow mornings, I hope you find plenty of time to connect and enjoy each other’s company.
While summer is a time for fun, it is also a critical window for our youngest learners. To help prevent the "summer slide," the learning loss that can happen when school is out. I encourage you to weave a little bit of skill practice into your daily summer routines. Keeping their minds active doesn’t have to feel like extra homework!
Read Every Day: Dedicate 15–20 minutes a day to reading together. Visit the local library, let your child pick out books they love, and ask questions about the stories to build comprehension.
Turn Math into a Game: Count snacks, spot shapes in nature, use sidewalk chalk for simple addition and subtraction games, or practice telling time on an analog clock.
Keep Writing Fun: Encourage your child to keep a summer journal, write postcards to family members, or help you write out the weekly grocery list.
Thank you for your incredible partnership, support, and dedication throughout this school year. We could not do this without you. Let’s make these final weeks fantastic, and I wish you all a safe, happy, and learning-filled summer!

Dr. Elizabeth M. Bell
