MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) is nationally recognized for its innovative and effective academic development program. MESA engages tens of thousands of educationally disadvantaged students so they excel in math and science and graduate with math-based degrees. MESA partners with segments of higher education as well as K-12 institutions.
MESA has a proven track record with over 50 years in producing math-based graduates by providing support such as classes, hands-on competitions, counseling, transfer support, career path exploration, and a community environment to students from middle school through a four-year college.

Maryland MESA (Math, Engineering, Science Achievement) is an exciting and engaging after-school program for students in grades 3–12 designed to spark their interest in STEM education and STEM careers. The program seeks to:
increase the number of engineers, scientists, mathematicians, and related professionals at technical and management levels, and
encourage and assist minorities and females in achieving success in these fields.

Maryland MESA uses a project-based approach to teach participating students the fundamentals of engineering and computer science. Student teams work on projects (called MESA challenges) which are designed by APL and the National MESA organization to help students develop computer programming and engineering skills. The teams then compete against other teams that have worked on the same challenge.
