For the first time in nearly 30 years, the position of General Manager/ Head Golf Professional is open at the Whitefish Golf Club. This is due to the existing General Manager leaving to start a new personal and professional journey in another state.

Title: General Manager/Head Golf Professional
Reports to: Whitefish Golf Club is owned by the Ideal Development Corporation, a shareholder-owned company. Supervisory responsibility for its operation and management is vested in a nine-person Board of Directors elected by the shareholders. There is an elected, revolving 4-year term 9-person board of directors who assist the GM/HP where necessary in business matters. The GM/HP reports to the President of the Board. There are customers who have purchased shares in the company and members who purchase annual memberships.
Supervises: As GM/HP, the incumbent will manage all aspects of the facility including its activities and the relationships between the golf club, its stockholders and members, its patrons, employees, the community, and government entities. As GM/HP, the incumbent will manage the total golf operation to ensure a satisfying golf experience for members and patrons and will provide excellent golfing programs and services. Specific responsibilities are enumerated below.
Position Description: To assist the Board of Directors in meeting its operating objectives for Whitefish Golf Club. Responsibilities for the day-to-day operation of the golf club are vested in this individual as outlined in the job description below. The GM/HP role and all it encompasses, including owning/managing the pro-shop execution/results, is important.
Policy and Planning:
Develops and coordinates long-range and annual business plans, including budgets.
Develops/implements/monitors general operating policies and plans in conformance with Board of Directors objectives and guidance.
In conjunction with department managers, i.e. Greens Superintendent and Food and Beverage Manager, establishes their annual objectives and supervises their execution.
Establishes policy for and supervises the execution of security of Whitefish assets to include financial, facilities, and equipment.
Human Resources:
Establishes personnel policies in conjunction with the Board of Directors.
Ensures proper hiring; training; supervision by department managers; and corrective action as required by fair labor standards, safety, and established policy.
Ensures accurate recording of hourly labor and timely, accurate payroll processing.
Executes personnel policies that govern end-of-season bonuses and pay raises for all employees, including department managers.
Accounting and Fiscal:
Responsible for the accounting, bookkeeping, and reporting functions of corporate financial assets in accordance with Corporate Board, Corporate Treasurer, and corporate auditing firm advice and direction.
Prepares monthly financial reports and statistics covering all aspects of Whitefish operations.
Provides necessary data to corporate auditing firms for preparation of annual compilation.
Prepares the annual operating budget and business plan in accordance with guidance from the Corporate Board as to priorities and capital expenses.
Ensures the filing of reports and tax returns to local, state, and federal agencies on or before due dates.
As advised by the Corporate President and Secretary, maintains the official shareholder registry and ensures that stock transfers are completed in accordance with corporate policy.
Establishes and monitors compliance with all purchasing policies and inventory security, including food and beverage, clubhouse, and course facilities.
Operations:
Evaluates insurance coverage annually and makes recommendations to the Board for changes deemed necessary.
Ensures that safety, health, and environmental regulations from local, state, and federal agencies are implemented and enforced at Whitefish.
Establishes, in consultation with the Greens Superintendent, the opening and closing of the course for the season and playing times through the season based on weather and course conditions.
Supervises clubhouse operations. This will include, but is not limited to, hiring and training of counter personnel, rangers/starters, and food and beverage personnel; develops and monitors the tee-time reservation system and develops and monitors the cart rental system; programs the clubhouse cash register in accordance with current greens fees, merchandising codes, and other rates.
Coordinates routinely with the Presidents of the men’s and women’s leagues, and establishes their operating parameters for the season, such as days, times, rates, scheduling to avoid conflict with other activities, etc.
Ensures the highest standards for golf course services, golf course practice areas, food and beverage, and other Whitefish services available to the public.
Oversees the administration of the handicap program.
Develops and manages innovative tournament and event programs that service all customer segments and enhance business development.
Maintains and oversees an attractive and profitable merchandise concession and accomplishes all golf-related purchasing.
Provide golf instruction, clinics, and golfer development for all customer segments.
The GM/HP would own the Golf Shop Merchandise
Marketing and Sales:
Represents Whitefish in golf associations, Chambers of Commerce, resort groups, and similar organizations.
Develops and coordinates the club’s marketing and promotional programs to recruit members and patrons.
Maintains active membership in appropriate professional organizations pursuant to Golf Professional responsibilities.
Attends conferences, workshops, and professional meetings to keep abreast of current information and developments in the field.
Actively promotes golf programs for the youth of the area.
Compiles information from market competition for comparison studies to properly position Whitefish in the local marketplace.
Assist Board Members and media outlets in the publication of informational and promotional material about the Whitefish golfing experience.
A positive, friendly attitude, a welcoming approach, adept at conflict management, an ability to recruit and manage a workforce across multiple activities, and an individual who works well with the board, shareholders, members, customers, and suppliers.
Including, but not limited to, the following:
Minimum experience of five years of golf course operations (or similar) management experience is preferred. This is a senior position - requires full responsibility of the golf club.
Candidate should have a progressive career path with a proven record of providing outstanding service at the highest level possible.
Coursework in accounting, recreational management, or agronomy, is desirable.
Class A PGA Member is preferred.
Experience in all aspects of the club operation, including food and beverage, and golf course operations is preferred.
A working knowledge of management and accounting principles and techniques is essential.
Must have work experience in and knowledge of computer operations, business-related programs and software and the use of computers to generate reports, budgets, and tables.
Must have aptitude, work experience and background in communicating with subordinates, organizations, and the general public.
The club will provide compensation and benefits package commensurate with experience and qualifications. This includes but is not limited to:
Salary: $85,000
Bonus: $5,000
Estimated pro-shop earnings: $30,000+
Estimated lesson income: TBD
Benefits included:
Relocation allowance of $10,000, if needed as the candidate must live/move to the area.
Paid as cash expense against reasonable receipts.
Insurance: Health and Optical 100% paid for employee and the cost to add family will be dependent upon the health and optical insurance policy chosen.
Vacation days: 3 weeks up to ten years, 4 weeks after ten years of employment.
Cell phone allowance ($1000/year)
