ABOUT THE CLUB
SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT I Vermont National is home to a beautiful 18-hole Jack Nicklaus/Jack Nicklaus II Signature Design championship course, the first of its kind in New England.
Originally founded in 1998, the Club is situated on over 400 acres of beautiful
Vermont countryside, encompassing some of the region’s most spectacular views of both the Green and Adirondack Mountains. Construction began at Vermont National Country Club in the summer of 1996 when the Economou Family received permission to construct a golf course on a family dairy farm in South Burlington, VT.
VNCC opened its front nine holes and driving range on July 17, 1998. The
Farmhouse, which now serves as a multi-function facility, as well as the Swim & Tennis Department and Snack Bar, served as the original clubhouse.
The back nine opened during the summer of 1999. The main clubhouse, along with the Swim & Tennis facilities, opened during the late spring-early summer of 2000.
The Vermont National Country Club has become one of the finest private family-oriented full-service country clubs in New England. VNCC provides preeminent recreational and social experiences for its members, their families, and friends by maintaining exceptional standards in its facilities, programs, services, and professional staff.
VNCC operates as a private facility. Several categories of Private Membership are available. The Club’s Membership Plan guarantees against assessments.
JOB SUMMARY:
Title: Head Golf Professional
Reports To: General Manager
Manages: Assistant Professional(s), Teaching Professional(s), Bag Room Staff, and all Golf Shop staff.
General Summary: The Head Professional is responsible for developing, directing, and maintaining a quality golf program for the members and guests of the club. The ideal candidate will be an outgoing, energetic, hands-on individual who has an appreciation for all Vermont and Burlington offers.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
General
Plan, promote, and direct all golf activities
Promote the game of golf among the members and guests of the club by maintaining a first-class reputation for the program, including all events
Plays golf with members of all skill-levels to generate enthusiasm
Facilitate the enjoyment of the golf facilities, including playing with members and guests and representation of the Club in local, state, and national events and community projects with the approval of the General Manager
Interprets and enforces golf rules and regulations
Interprets and enforces club policies, rules, and regulations
Consults with the General Manager about golf course operations, maintenance, and rules
Attends national and sectional conferences/meetings, educational and professional shows to encourage development and to enhance the quality and image of the club
Prepares annual and monthly budgets for golf operations; takes corrective actions as necessary to help assure that budget goals are attained
Staffing
Recruit, develop, and manage a competent, friendly, and knowledgeable golf staff.
Plans professional development and training activities for subordinates
Works to develop a cohesive and cooperative effort among all affected departments
Schedules staff hours to assure that members are fully served and that labor costs are maintained; ensures adherence to posted schedules
Conducts regularly scheduled departmental staff meetings for the purpose of improving communication and/or education of subordinate staff members
As needed, may assist in the formulation of operating policies and procedures.
Adheres to all federal, state, and local laws regarding health, safety, and employment
Golf Shop
Will oversee the Golf Shop Manager to manage the Golf Shop and related facilities for the purpose of the display of merchandise and the stocking of inventory consistent with the Club's budget and guidelines
Orders merchandise for golf shop with the Golf Shop Manager to provide the best selection possible within the constraints of inventory and quality limits set by the General Manager
Orders supplies associated with golf activities
Instruction
Promote the development of the membership's skills and appreciation for the game of golf, including participation in educational presentations
Oversees the design and administration of golf lessons and clinics
Designs and conducts junior golf clinics and training programs
Communication
Consult with the General Manager and Head Golf Course Superintendent regarding factors relating to events and course usage and to assist them regarding decisions concerning the opening and closing of the golf course because of weather or other course conditions
Attends management meetings to review policies and procedures, upcoming business and to continually foster communication and cooperation among the various departments of the Club.
Works to develop a successful professional relationship with other Management Staff members and subordinate staff to ensure that a high degree of teamwork and cooperation is set to address the common goals of the Club.
Cooperates with the Head Golf Course Superintendent about maintenance issues that affect the playability of the golf course
Tournament Operations & Events:
Plans and Coordinates all phases of ‘Bear Member Guest” tournament that best represents the membership and all attendees. Meets with fellow department managers and assumes the lead role in all operational phases.
Organizes and conducts club tournaments and related events
Plans social evenings and events to promote golf and fellowship among members and guests
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
The position requires a Class-A membership of the PGA.
Previous experience in a private club or resort-oriented operation is preferable.
Knowledge of, and experience using Microsoft Office and/or exposure to electronic tee time management and other related software is a plus. The current software system is Jonas
Working Conditions
Work is performed in both a controlled atmosphere and, in the out of doors in all types of weather. Will often be required to work nights, weekends and holidays. This is an on-and-off golf course position and may require extensive physical activity with occasional lifting of over 25 pounds.

COMPENSATIONI
Compensation: $85,000 - $95,000
Lesson Revenue: $10,000 - $15,000
Outing Bonus: $4,500
Performance Bonus Potential: $6,000
Total Compensation: $95,000 - $125,000
