Reports to: Board of Directors/General Manager
Supervises: Staff of 10-12 including: Head Golf Professional, Assistant Golf Professionals, Outside Services Staff, Range Staff
Position Description: Manage all golf and golf-related activities and business.
Manages all golf operations. Responsible for assuring complete member and guest satisfaction on the golf course and in the pro shop. Plans, promotes, and directs all golf activities, including daily management responsibilities.
Selects, supervises, trains, and evaluates golf cart maintenance personnel and pro shop, golf range, golf bag, and club storage employees.
Plans professional development and training activities for subordinates.
Attends all staff, management, golf committee, and other applicable meetings.
Responsible for all aspects of course play: starting procedures, guest check-in, speed of play, tracking rounds, training and placing of caddies, etc.
Organizes and conducts club tournaments and related events.
Interprets and enforces golf rules and regulations. Interprets and enforces club policies, rules, and regulations.
Supervises the work of the assistant golf professional.
Supervises the golf play of members and guests from the first tee and maintains starting times according to the club’s rules and regulations.
Consults with the general manager about golf course and practice range operations, maintenance and rules. Serves as management liaison to Green Committee and in conjunction with golf course superintendent serves as steward of the Golf Course Maintenance Standards Manual.
Assists in supervising and inspecting design improvements and capital outlays to golf courses and golf facilities.
Assists in the development of short- and long-range plans for improvements to the club facilities and courses.
Cooperates with the grounds superintendent about maintenance issues that affect the playability of the golf course.
Under the direction of the golf committee, implements and administers a system governing the start of play and the handicap system.
Represents the club in area professional events, including local, state, or national events, with the approval of the golf committee.
Organizes marshals for tournaments and at other times as determined by the golf committee; supervises marshals to help ensure that expected performance is delivered.
Attends national and sectional conferences and meetings, merchandise shows, educational and professional shows to encourage development and to enhance the quality and image of the club.
Manages the new golf member orientation program.
Plays golf with members of all skill levels to generate enthusiasm.
Acts as designated host for members who are unable to play with their guests or have more than one group of guests.
Manages all outside services personnel. Ensures that training and procedures are in place to assure that: proper greetings to members and guests, member and guests clubs are appropriately cleaned and stored, golf carts are maintained according to schedule, valets are attentive and responsive to members and guests, the range is set up as planned, and that the cart barn is clean and orderly at all times.
Oversees driving range operation: range ball quality, top dressing, uniform usage, inventory levels, distance measuring devices, target definition, etc.
Supervises the operation of the handicap system, including posting, handicap integrity, course rating, score reporting, etc.
Performs other appropriate tasks assigned by the Board of Directors.
Including, but not limited to, the following:
PGA Member in good standing
5 years of prior experience as Director of Golf or Head Professional
Strong team leader with exceptional skills at hiring, training, developing staff, and supporting staff upward mobility
Accessible professional focused on club and member visibility
Strong back of the house experience, i.e., budgets, personnel, short and long-range planning
Excellent player and teacher
Ability to create member relations and a member experience at the highest level
Experienced at merchandising, providing products, and creating a memorable member experience through unparalleled service
Ability to administer a creative and exceptional tournament schedule and experience
The club will provide a compensation and benefits package commensurate with experience and qualifications. This includes but is not limited to:
Base salary range $150,000 - $175,000
10% of base bonus upon performance
100% of lessons
