Title: Director of Golf
Reports to: GM/COO
Supervises: Head Golf Professional & all Golf Operations Staff
Position Description: The Director of Golf will oversee and manage the golf operations including the golf shop, golf cart operations, outside services, as well as promoting and directing daily play and all golf activities in coordination with other departments. The position will maintain and continuously improve upon the existing high standards of quality and service by delivering The Country Club at Castle Pines Mission Statement.
Hire, train/develop, supervise, and evaluate the performance of all golf personnel including the head golf professional, assistant professionals, merchandise buyer, golf shop attendants and outside staff.
Motivate and develop staff including training and development opportunities, cross training, and promotion of personnel.
Represent the Club in professional events including local, state, or national events with the approval of the GM/COO.
Playing- The Club’s competitive spirit traditionally carries over to Section professional tournaments. Represent the club on a competitive level, and in the highest manner becoming of a professional.
Responsible for creating and implementing Assistant Golf Professional (Personal) action plan.
Ensure that golf shop policies and procedures are updated and adhered to and that job descriptions are updated and posted.
Maintain safety standards and safety equipment within OSHA standards.
Committees- Work closely with and ensure guidance is provided to the golf chairman and golf committee.
Club Repair/Club Fitting- Provide professional club repair and club fitting services to members.
Course play- Oversee the reservation system, starting, and monitoring of play and pace while enforcing the established rules and regulations governing the use of the golf course. Maintain accurate record keeping of rounds and guest fees.
Member programs- lead and coordinate all facets of player development initiatives with an emphasis on supporting members, while creating new customers/golfers and generating business. Develop the annual business plan to include targeted focus on providing programs for women, families, seniors and juniors.
PGA Credentials- Maintain good standing in the PGA of America and mentor Apprentices through the PGM program.
Instruction- Develop and oversee an enhanced golf instruction program including individual and instructional clinics for all levels of membership. Ensure the services of a well trained staff of professional instructors are available.
Golf Shop Merchandise- administration and responsibility for operating a retail golf operation for the benefit of the membership to include:
Presenting a diverse and desirable array of golf equipment and apparel with efficiency and pleasing aesthetics.
Supervising special-order program to maximize member service.
Controlling inventory and maintaining precise retail records for monthly accounts payable through POS.
Accurately budget staffing costs and supervise payroll records for golf shop and outside personnel.
Maintain an attractive, orderly appearance in the golf shop.
Additional Duties/Responsibilities of the Position
Oversee the administration of the handicap program.
Welcome and greet/meet members, and guests.
Play golf with male and female and junior (children) members of all skill-levels .
Oversee and manage an organized and orderly practice facility.
Maintain close working relationship with the Director of Agronomy and other department heads.
Coordinating the marketing and promotion of member play.
Facilitate the preparation of budgets, including forecasting and review of all golf revenues and expenses.
Establish sales goals and forecasts for all golf programs and services, monitor and analyze reports.
Manage all golf related assets such as golf carts, range equipment, and electronic equipment.
Oversee all golf services and operations, golf cart fleet, and staff.
Membership Sales- Assist the Director of Sales in securing new members and provide a supporting role in assisting the Director with prospective members.
Bag storage- Ensure the proper storage, safety, cleaning, and repair or member club equipment.
Assist in the publication of newsletters, informational and promotional materials.
Including, but not limited to, the following:
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 2 years' experience in a Head Professional position at a comparable private equity or resort facility.
Excellent communication/relational skills.
Excellent mentoring, training and supervisory skills.
Experience in managing the purchasing, displaying, and selling golf merchandise.
Experience in organizing, promoting and conducting professionally run member tournaments and corporate outings.
Proficient in computer applications including Word, Excel, POS, inventory control systems, tournament programs, and Microsoft Outlook.
The club will provide a compensation and benefits package commensurate with experience and qualifications. This includes but is not limited to:
Base Salary: $180,000-$190,000
Annual Performance Bonus up to 12.5% of Base Salary
