Cornelius, NC | The Peninsula Club is a member-owned private country located on the shores of Lake Norman in Cornelius, NC. The Club sprawls along eleven miles of Lake Norman shoreline at the heart of The Peninsula Community. The members purchased The Club from the developer of the community on January 1, 2000. The Club boasts a spectacular 35,000 square-foot Main Clubhouse, Swim/Tennis Complex, dedicated Sports Center, Children's Activities Center, and Aquatics Complex. Since its founding, The Peninsula Club has seen its membership expand to a diverse group of ages, interests, and backgrounds. The respected senior team offers ever-changing golf, tennis, and fitness programs to varied dining and family events. Currently, The Club is doing a $19,000,000.00 renovation of the facilities with $12,000,000 being allocated to the golf course. The Golf Course is being redesigned by renowned architect Beau Welling of Beau Welling Design. The Club is adding a state-of-the-art Golf Performance Center on the newly shaped practice facilities, with an attached new Golf Pro Shop. An eighteen-hole putting course is also be added to the golf amenities. There are four new tennis courts under construction, six pickleball courts, and a new Adult Lounge under construction in the Main Clubhouse.

Position Description: The Peninsula Club is seeking a Director of Golf who will bring a passion for the game of golf, visibility with members and staff, an outgoing personality, engagement with the membership, and a sense of urgency. Provide a high level of service to staff while delivering a memorable experience for members. With a brand new golf course, teaching facility, pro shop, and practice facility, we are seeking an individual who is a strong leader.

Golf Operations Management
Oversee the reservation system, starting, monitoring, and pace of play.
Track and verify all players and guests, green fees, golf cars, club care, lockers, handicap fees, and other charges necessary, and facilitate accurate accounting and recordkeeping.
Oversee golf cart fleet while ensuring proper maintenance and recordkeeping.
Develop and manage an innovative tournament program.
Oversee the operations of a new practice facility to include a performance center.
Oversee club repair and club fitting services with the team.
Ensure the proper storage, safety, and cleaning of golf equipment.
Play golf with all levels of members as time permits.
Administer the Rules of Golf and educate staff. Promote and provide Rules of Golf clinics to the membership.
Provide data and decision-making utilizing Power Bi.
Retail Management
Oversee retail merchandise concession in coordination with Retail Director and Golf Shop Manager.
Maintain a profitable golf merchandising operation within cost of goods of 70% - 72%. Had annual revenues of $700k with golf course closed last quarter of 2023. Targeting $1mm in the future with a new pro shop.
Oversee the development of buying plans and all golf-related purchasing.
Accountable for physical inventories and reporting of any discrepancies.
Offer a diverse and desirable array of golf equipment, apparel, and accessories.
Utilize customer database to track spending, sizes, and preferences.
Maintain an orderly appearance in and around the golf shop.
Conduct accurate and timely inventory counts.
Player Development
Develop, provide, and oversee an enhanced golf instruction program offering individual and group clinics for all levels. Work with a tenured Director of Instruction and Teaching Professional.
Develop and oversee player development programs.
Focus on programs for women, families, seniors, and juniors.
Work with instructors on new and creative programming and development.
Administration
Recruit, hire, train, motivate, and supervise all golf department staff and maintain accurate payroll records.
Ensure evaluations and annual reviews are completed and recorded for all applicable staff.
Attend weekly Director meetings and conduct staff meetings with golf personnel.
Update and maintain Golf Shop policies, procedures, and job descriptions and ensure they are adhered to.
Maintain safety standards including utilization of golf carts within club staff and any safety requirements within OSHA.
Assist in the publication of newsletters, emails, and promotional materials.
Oversee the administration of the golf handicap program.
Work closely with and provide guidance and consultation with Golf Committee, and Green Committee from time to time.
Attend applicable committee meetings.
Adhere to, enforce, and implement policies and procedures of the golf course and facility.
Set up regular written communication with the supervisor to include facility, programming, and staff.
Business and Financial
Responsible for the financial and operational performance of the Golf Shop operations and all golf-related areas.
Ensure all financial goals and objectives are achieved. Be able to explain variances monthly.
Assist in the development and preparation of budgets, including forecasting and review of all golf operations revenues and expenses on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
Ensure systems controls are in place to safeguard assets, revenues, and resources.
Utilize Power Bi to monitor revenues, expenses, COGS, rounds, and merchandise. Make sound decisions based on the data provided.
Teamwork
Work closely with all department heads to achieve the goals and objectives of The Club.
Maintain a close working relationship with the Director of Golf Course and Grounds and provide advice on course playability and tournament setup.
Assist the Director of Membership and provide a supporting role in assisting prospective members and orientation of new members for golf.
Coordinate plans with the Clubhouse Manager for food and beverage needs for all golf functions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Traits
Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, the rules of golf, golf facility operations, and tournament operations.
Be able to lead a team of 15-20.
Act as a role model for all employees by demonstrating the behavior and work ethic expected of all employees.
Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills.

Strong written and oral communication skills.
Remain up to date on customer relationship management tactics and strategies.
Experienced computer user including; Microsoft Word and Excel. Proficient in other applications, including GHIN.

Maintain a credible golf game and remain current on teaching innovations.
Including, but not limited to, the following:
Class A PGA Certified
Minimum of five years experience as a Director of Golf or Head Golf Professional at a private club
Bachelor’s degree preferred
