ABOUT SEQUOYAH COUNTRY CLUB
OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA |
Over a century ago, a who’s-who of prominent Oakland citizens met in San Francisco’s St. Francis Hotel to found what would become one of the most beautiful and challenging private golf clubs in Northern California, the Sequoyah Country Club.
After the initial organization in 1913, the first clubhouse was completed in 1915. The initial plans included space for a polo field and racetrack, but the centerpiece of the property was the 6,100-yard golf course. The course was unique for its time as there were no public roads interrupting its layout.
A clubhouse renovation in 1928 added more modern amenities. By the 1930s, Sequoyah Country Club was a hub of elegance and sophistication as it became a regular destination for social functions. Women’s golf became a regular part of the Club’s activity, and Sequoyah Country Club hosted premier tournaments featuring the biggest names of the day like Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Jimmy Demaret and Byron Nelson.
For the last 90 years, Sequoyah Country Club has remained a place where families can gather, play, relax, compete, or just enjoy the company of their fellow members. During the year we are a premier destination for weddings, formal affairs, and fine dining. And as we have for over a century, we are home to the gorgeous vistas on one of the most challenging golf courses in America.
