Title: Director of Golf
Reports to: GM/COO
Supervises: All Golf Operations Staff
Position Description: The Director of Golf is responsible for overseeing all golf operations at the club, ensuring a great golf experience for members and their guests. This individual provides professional leadership in promoting and delivering exceptional service standards, managing day-to-day operations of the golf shop and course play, and supervising golf staff. Responsibilities include providing the highest level of service to members and guests, ensuring the enforcement of golf operations policies and procedures, monitoring daily revenues and ensuring prudent fiscal management, and working with various committees to address the needs of a large and diverse membership. The Director of Golf collaborates with the General Manager and golf committee to align the golf operation with the overall mission and vision of the Club. They also work closely with other amenities at the Club to maximize golf course utilization and revenues. This opening arises as we begin the transition following years of outstanding service of our esteemed Head Golf Professional's upcoming retirement. A long-term commitment by a dedicated PGA Professional striving for consistency, tradition, and continuous improvement is encouraged to apply.
Lead by example and promote the Seabrook Superior Private Club Experience.
Work with the General Manager to create annual and long-range financial goals.
Work with club committees to coordinate tournaments, events, and policies to enhance membership at The Club.
Monitor daily revenues and expenditures to ensure financial goals are attained.
Organize daily tee sheets in order to best utilize the golf facilities for the interest of the members of The Club while maximizing revenues.
Coordinate weekly golf events for members of The Club.
Hold golf staff meetings no less than once every quarter.
Promote the game of golf and the development of golf professionals through teaching and supervising golf instruction programs and playing with members.
Supervise and oversee the merchandise concession, including purchasing, display, sales, and inventory control.
Maintain good standing in the PGA of America, interact with the association and other golf professionals, and continue to receive education in areas to better serve the Seabrook Island Club.
Represent the PGA of America by adhering to the code of ethics that ensures a professional golf image of integrity and playing ability.
Maintain a USGA recognized handicapping program and enforce the Rules of Golf in order to properly provide fairness for a large tournament operations program.
Maintain the ability to demonstrate and teach the game of golf in a professional manner.
Maintain a clear and open line of communication with the Director of Golf Course Maintenance.
Responsible for the safety, cleanliness, and general appearance of the Golf Operations area.
Complete any other projects or tasks delegated by the GM/COO.
Lead by example and promote the Club’s Core Values, Characteristics, Employee Constitution, Purpose, and Mantra.
Focus on maintaining and improving the member and employee experience.
Establish a strong working relationship with the GM/COO and ensure open lines of communication with all Seabrook Island Club employees and members.
Establish regular and consistent communication practices with department employees to ensure expectations are clear and employees are up-to-date with general club activities and policies, while receiving employee feedback accordingly to maintain and improve a positive employment experience.
Oversee the hiring, management, and training of all department employees. Provide guidance and regular feedback as well as conduct annual performance evaluations.
Update payroll and human resources of all status changes.
Identify department’s needs, including but not limited to processes, policies, services, and industry standards/trends, and establish annual operating and capital budgets to address needs accordingly.
Regularly monitor department activity and financial performance, making adjustments if necessary, using data trends and pyramid decision-making.
Stay apprised of industry trends and outside influences as they pertain to department operations
Regularly attend Department Head meetings, Manager retreats, and appropriate committee meetings.
Ensure employees have the tools, training, and time necessary to achieve the Club’s goals.
Develop and strive to attain annual goals as established with the GM/COO.
Work and communicate regularly with the club committee and the Committee Chair.
Create a welcoming and engaging environment for members and guests.
Develop strong member relationships to understand preferences, anticipate needs, and personalize service.
Ensure work areas are organized, clean, and safe, meeting any sanitation requirements by outside agencies.
Identify, report, and directly address, if able, any safety-related issues on club property.
Complete any other projects and tasks assigned by the GM/COO.
Including, but not limited to, the following:
Minimum of 5 years as a Head Golf Professional in a private or resort golf club.
College Degree required.
Class “A” member in good standing of the Professional Golfers' Association of America.
Strong leadership, management, communication, and organizational skills are necessary.
The ability to interact with a diverse customer base is essential.
The ability to resolve problems and effectively determine a proper course of action for the organization is required. Excellent interpersonal and motivational skills, as well as a professional image, are required.
Equipment to be used:
Microsoft’s Office Suite, and Internet; Tee time management system; Handicap monitoring and reporting software; Video equipment for teaching purposes.
Typical Physical Demands:
Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office, retail, and sports equipment. Requires ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time. Requires bending, stooping, and reaching. Requires normal range of hearing and vision. Requires ability to lift and move heavy tables, chairs and other objects. Requires ability to function professionally in an environment that is both physically and mentally stressful and challenging.
