Sankaty Head, founded in 1921, opened for Golf on September 2, 1922 following completion of the Emerson Armstrong layout.
Sankaty is a private golf club with tennis, swimming, and dining and provides its members and their families with first-rate recreational and social activities in an understated and informal environment. The Club prides itself on the diversity of its membership, drawing on a wide range of Nantucket‘s population, from summer and part-year residents to year-round Nantucketers. The Club and its camaraderie play an important part in the Nantucket experience of its members, and the Club sees itself as an island resource. It is a responsible member of the Nantucket community by sharing the use of its facilities to island charities and organizations.
Sankaty strives to be an outstanding family golf club with a unique layout and active social program in a summer recreational setting. The goal is to strike the right balance between innovation and tradition, and in so doing, to increase the enjoyment of the membership year after year.

The Head Golf Professional at Sankaty Head Golf Club is a cornerstone of the Club. He or she must embody the highest levels of integrity, professionalism, and visible presence with members and staff.
The ideal candidate will be a leader for Sankaty Head’s golf operations which play a large factor at the club. While building meaningful relationships within the Club, the Head Golf Professional is someone who needs to have his or her finger on the pulse of all operations and an understanding of the cultural values that exist at the Club. The successful candidate will promote an exceptional golf experience by welcoming and providing services and programs for all members and guests.
GOLF OPERATIONS
Administer and deliver valuable Member experience, Member programs, tournament management, and golf instruction.
Create an atmosphere of overall hospitality, engagement, and enthusiasm through interactions with members, guests, and staff.
Oversee and administer the Club’s rules and policies governing the use of the golf course and practice facilities.
Develop, maintain, and hold accountable high standards of conduct, performance, and operating procedures among the Golf Staff
Cultivate and maintain an effective relationship with the General Manager, Golf Chairman, Greens Superintendent, and Board based on trust and accountability.
Represent Sankaty Head Golf Club externally in professional golf activities, New England PGA Section, Cape Cod Chapter, and related local community organizations.
Maintain and foster industry connections to enhance technology, stay ahead of trends, and build upon a network to develop future staffing.
Provide strong player development and junior golf programs for both boys and girls.
Own and manage the Professional Shop with the latest clothing and equipment. Market the Sankaty Head brand with products and brands that are current, high quality, and targeted toward Member tastes.
Play with a diverse group of members of all skill levels.
Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of the rules of golf and the Club’s local rules.
The professional will be a part of conversations to promote Golf Course accessibility, in conjunction with the club's tee time policy and guidelines.
Represent the golf department by attending committee and staff meetings.
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
Ability to attract, develop, motivate, and retain a high-performing team of service-minded professionals.
Develop and coordinate proactive internal communications on all golfing activities throughout each level of the golf operation and Club.
Foster a positive work environment for all Golf Staff.
Advancement of Golf Staff into elevated positions including Head Professional positions.
Including, but not limited to, the following:
PGA Class A member in good standing.
Strong leadership skills and proven experience in recruiting, training, and mentoring staff across the entire golf operation.
5 or more years of leadership and golf management experience at a well-recognized Club.
Above-average playing skills.
Team-oriented, the Head Professional must get along well with the team and other departments.
Service commitment to members, guests, and fellow staff.
Highly organized and detail-oriented.
Strategic and Long-term range planning experience and skills.
Ambassador for Sankaty Head, both internally and externally.
Effective oral and written communication skills paired with strong interpersonal skills.
Compensation:
Base Salary - Commensurate with experience
10% Bonus Potential
Ownership of the Golf Retail Concession
100% of Lessons / Clinic Revenue

Founded in 1930 and supported by the Sankaty Head Foundation, the program is home each summer to 60 caddies and staff members. Caddies live in a structured, disciplined environment and spend part of each day caddying for members of the Sankaty Head Golf Club. Caddies are paid for caddying and also have the opportunity to qualify for academic scholarships awarded annually by the Sankaty Head Foundation. The grounds are located between the 11th, 12th, and 13th holes at the golf club.
