Chula Vista, CA | Where golf in Southern California began.
San Diego Country Club was the first Country Club in San Diego and is the only private club in Southern San Diego County. SDCC is an 18-hole golf-only facility and is a nationally recognized venue hosting multiple National Championships, including the U.S. Women's Open (1964) and the U.S. Women's Amateur (1993 & 2017). It is also the future site of the U.S. Senior Women's Open (2025).
San Diego Country Club (SDCC) was established in 1897 as a nine-hole golf course in what is now Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo. In 1913 SDCC was forced to move as the city prepared to host the Pan American Exposition in Balboa Park. The Club found a temporary home in Point Loma, where it leased a golf course from A.G. Spalding. In 1920 SDCC members purchased 160 acres of rolling farmland in Chula Vista with an open view west to the bay and east to Mt. Miguel. There, William Watson designed the first all-grass 18-hole golf course in Southern California.
San Diego Country Club’s time-honored traditions and championship golf course provide the ideal setting for players of all levels to challenge themselves and improve their skills. As a private club, SDCC offers a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who share a passion for golf. Whether you’re a seasoned player or just starting, the club’s welcoming atmosphere and attentive staff will help you feel right at home.
SDCC has proudly retained Renaissance Golf Design with Brian Schneider as lead architect to complete a master plan for the golf course which is estimated to be delivered to the membership in Q1 2024.
