Title: Head Golf Professional
Reports to: President and Board of Directors
Supervises: Golf operations department team members
Season: March 15-October 31 | Professioinal is not required to be on site November 1-March 14, however individual is required to attend monthly board meetings either in-person or virtually.
Position Description: The Head Golf Professional will be responsible for promoting, organizing, and growing the game of golf. This individual will manage daily play, golf events, leagues, golf shop merchandise, golf instruction, club repair, and clubhouse operations.
Golf Management
Oversee and manage day-to-day operations of the 9-hole public golf course.
Provide exceptional customer service to members and guests, ensuring a positive golfing experience.
Develop and implement golf programs, events, and tournaments to enhance member engagement.
Manage the golf shop, including inventory control, merchandising, and sales.
Conduct golf lessons and clinics for players of all skill levels.
Ensure the course is well-maintained, coordinating with groundskeeping staff to achieve high standards.
Administer and enforce golf course policies and regulations.
Foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all golfers.Under the direction of the board, implement and administer a system governing the start of play and the handicap system.
Provide support for tournaments and at other times as determined by the board; supervise staff to help ensure that expected performance is delivered.
Design and conduct junior golf clinics and training programs.
Manage new golf member orientation program.
Supervise and schedule the work hours for the operation, golf course and golf car staff within the parameters of the annual operating budget.
Design, promote and direct all golf activities including daily operational and staff management responsibilities.
Financial Management
Assist in the development of short and long-range plans for improvements to the club facilities and courses.
Assist in supervising and inspecting design improvements and capital outlays to golf course and golf facilities.
Prepare annual budgets for golf operations; take corrective actions necessary to help assure that budget goals are attained.
Communications
Plan social evenings and events to promote golf and fellowship among members and guests.
Meet regularly with the Golf Course Superintendent to review the condition of the golf course and make recommendations on areas needing attention.
Interact with the members about food and beverage needs for private parties & events.
Act as management liaison with the board of directors and attend all meetings. Recommend policy changes in the areas of user fee structure, hours of operation, guest privileges, etc.
Attending national and sectional conferences and meetings, merchandise shows, educational and professional shows to encourage development and to enhance the quality and image of the club.
Plan professional development and training activities for subordinates.
Interpret and enforce golf and club rules and regulations without prejudice. Ensure the staff is familiar with club rules and policies and enforces them.
Including, but not limited to, the following:
PGA Membership or equivalent certification is preferred.
Prior experience in all facets of golf operations, including inventory and financial control; employee motivation and training; golf instruction; tournament and event management; working knowledge of golf course maintenance is preferred.
Head Professional or Assistant Professional experience is preferred.
Strong knowledge of golf industry trends, rules, and etiquette.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to lead and motivate staff to provide excellent service.
Proficient in golf course management software and Point of Sale systems.
Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as needed.
Knowledge of marketing, financial management and retail operations.
The club will provide compensation and benefits package commensurate with experience and qualifications. This includes but is not limited to:
Base Salary - $70,000/yr paid monthly for 12 months
Expenses (Health Care Stipend)
100% Lesson revenue:
$2,500-$5,000 based on historical averages
Revenue Share:
20% of Range Revenue ($2,000-$3,000 based on historical averages)
40% of Golf Shop Net Revenues ($5,000-$10,000 based on historical averages)
Total Potential Compensation - $88,000 for a high-performing professional following a successful season.
The Club will cover golf additional golf operations labor dollars up to $15,000
The Club is open from March 15th through October 31st. The professional is not required to be on-site for the balance of the year, but is required to attend monthly board meetings all year either in-person or virtually.
