Reports to: Director of Golf
Supervises: Assistant Professionals, Golf Shop Service Staff, Club Fitter/Club Repair Staff, Locker Room Staff, Outside Service Staff
General Purpose: As a member of the Promontory Golf Management Team, the Head Golf Professional at The Hills Course will oversee the total golf operation and services offered, including the golf shop, practice facility, golf academy, golf services areas, and golf car operation, including supervision of the assistant golf professionals. The position will promote an exceptional "golf experience," and provide excellent services and programs for all patrons
The ideal candidate will be a positive and energetic individual who demonstrates exceptional leadership, interpersonal skills, and set's a service first culture. He/she will be an outstanding communicator, an accomplished leader and mentor, and can play the game at a high level.
The Head Golf Professional should have worked in a family-oriented, traditional golf club setting which has activities for all generations. He/she must be able to appreciate the needs of different genders, personalities, abilities, and ages. Experience managing a club's caddie program as well as a proven record of mentoring and advancing staff are two key experience traits for the successful candidate. He/she will sponsor an atmosphere of inclusiveness at the Club by providing equal attention to juniors, beginners as well as those with low handicaps. Participation in PGA/LPGA activities is a plus.
The ideal candidate must also demonstrate his/her mastery of running significant components of an effective golf operation either as a Head Golf Professional or as a lead Assistant Golf Professional at a premier private club. While individuals with varying degrees of experience will be considered, the successful candidate must be able to clearly articulate past roles in cultivating an outstanding golf experience, with a member and team focused environment.
Familiarity with golf in the region is considered a plus, but not required. Class-A PGA membership is mandatory, and candidates should be proficient with the many ways that information technology (Northstar, Golf Genius, Excel, Word as examples) enhances communications in a contemporary golf operation.
And the ideal candidate’s resume and references will evidence not only these technical and collaborative aspects of his/her skill set but also examples of fresh thinking to excite and inspire both members and guests. Part coach and part ambassador, the prospective Head Golf Professional must demonstrate his/her potential to drive continuous improvement to the Club's golf programming.

Educational Requirements & Certifications:
PGA Member and a college degree or equivalent in experience
Familiarity with Northstar club management software is desired
Previous Experience Required:
3+ years’ experience as a Head Professional/Director of Golf or 5+ years of experience as an assistant professional at a family member club
Experience in a nationally recognized, private golf club environment preferred
Working Knowledge to be Acquired on the Job:
Abide by Promontory policies and procedures and submit ideas for revision. Review of current tournament programs and propose improvements and changes; working knowledge of Northstar club management software; work independently with little supervision; courteous and helpful with Promontory Club Members and employees.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand, walk and work on feet for multiple hours a day if needed; must be able to lift a minimum of 20lbs regularly and 75lbs occasionally; must be willing to work various hours, nights, holidays, and weekends; may occasionally require multiple rounds of golf played in a day.
Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
The successful candidate will be an excellent ambassador for the club in leading the entire golf operation and set an unparalleled standard of customer service.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, excellent communication skills, and a keen eye for attention to detail are some of the key traits necessary for success in this role.
Recruit, mentor, and support a strong team of Assistant Golf Professionals. Encourage them to pursue professional development as appropriate and also to compete in local/regional tournaments.
Develop and manage a full calendar of tournaments, social golf events, and outings.
Maintain a top-quality inventory of Golf Shop merchandise and equipment. Stay current with major manufacturers’ equipment/accessory trends, club fitting, and in shop merchandising practices that maximize profits consistent with a clear understanding of member needs and tastes.
Develop, implement, and control the annual golf budget to achieve revenue and cost goals. Ensure billing, accounting, and control practices meet Club standards.
Stay current with actual and trending USGA rules. Officiate at various in-house tournaments/matches when possible.
Interact well with the other club department heads to maintain an environment of excellence throughout the club.
This individual will be a visible and accessible professional who takes a “hands-on” approach to creating and overseeing the daily member experience.
Work with the Director of Golf to design, promote, and direct all golf activities.
Select, supervise, train, and evaluate golf shop and outside golf operations personnel.
Work with the Director of Golf to develop an annual business plan for the golf operation and prepare an annual golf budget.
Play golf with members of all skill levels as an opportunity to get to know you and generate enthusiasm in the golf program.
Work with the Director of Instruction to organize golf lessons, clinics, and golf development programs for all member segments.
Responsible for the orientation and training of all newly hired personnel. Consistently work with the staff daily to improve service to the membership.
Maintain a close working relationship and meet regularly with the Golf Course Superintendent to discuss maintenance issues that affect the practice facility and playability of the golf course.
Always set the example and ensure all staff adhere to the vision and mission statements and represent the Club’s mission and vision.
Interpret and enforce the club’s golf rules and regulations without prejudice and ensure that the Golf Shop staff is familiar with the rules of golf and policies of the club and enforces them.
Provide for the most efficient use of tee times and assure all tee times are properly scheduled.

Schedules and chairs regular staff meetings focused on customers, operations, revenue growth, cost containment, and continuous improvement.
Attends as invited committee/staff/public meetings representing the facility.
Help coordinate and ensure all written correspondence, reporting, newsletters, and communications for the golf operation.
Coordinate plans with the Food and Beverage Manager for all food and beverage needs, on-course food and beverage needs, banquets, outside events, and catering for all golf functions.
Attention to detail in an upscale environment pertaining to cleanliness and everything in working order.
