Reports to: General Manager
Supervises: Three head golf professionals, Director of Instruction, Tournament Director, all golf services, both inside and outside services staff
Position Description: The Director of Golf is responsible for the successful daily operation of the golf shop, supervision of professional and outside services staff, collaborating with merchandise operations, and the planning and execution of instructional and tournament programming. This role is highly visible and member-facing, requiring a combination of professional leadership, teaching ability, and strong customer service. The Director of Golf will also help oversee the debut of a newly renovated Estates Golf Course with renowned architect team of Davis Love Design, a state-of-the-art practice facility and clubhouse to be built and finished late 2027 early 2028.
Provide leadership and support to the Golf Operations team, including the Head Golf Professional, Assistant Golf Professionals, Tournament Coordinator, and Golf Operations Manager.
High visibility in and around the Golf Operation and consistent engagement with the Membership are paramount to building and maintaining a high-class golf experience.
Proactively involved in current projects within the department to include course and clubhouse renovations.
Collaborate with other departments within the Club to ensure streamlined communication and daily execution of services.
Actively engaged and involved with the Agronomy team to remain current with course conditions, operations, and future course projects.
Collaborate with Golf Group Leaders such that it streamlines daily member play.
Lead new Member onboarding such that it provides the Member with a warm welcome and introduction to the Golf Operation.
Provide golf instruction in a private and group setting as time permits.
Additional areas of responsibility:
Willingness to motivate, mentor, and train staff.
Ultimate team player who works closely with the entire Golf Operation team.
Innovative thinking that further develops and improves daily operations, events, and tournaments, and overall programming.
Including, but not limited to, the following:
Prior experience in a high-end golf/country club as a Director of Golf or top management position is preferred
Experience working in a similar “out front” service environment where member engagement is prized, visibility is natural, and member interaction is frequent.
Be an exemplary communicator, including interpersonal, written, and public speaking.
Proven abilities in staff development, including setting standards, hiring, training, orienting, mentoring, and evaluating performance relative to goals and standards.
Be a recognized ambassador in the private club realm regionally and nationally.
