Job Profile

The Head Golf Professional reports directly to the General Manager of Peninsula Golf and Country Club. This position works closely with all Club department heads to ensure mission, core values, service standards and objectives are met. This Director will lead and partner with the Club’s Golf Committee in making Peninsula Golf and Country Club a premier golf experience for the membership. A highly visible position, the Head Golf Professional requires a large presence with strong leadership at the Club and within the golf community. The Head Golf Professional is expected to be a passionate, innovative leader and to inspire his/her team to have a similar enthusiasm and level of performance while elevating the member experience

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Pro Shop

• Recruit, hire, train and supervise all Golf Professionals.

• Supervise and manage total Golf Operations Department in a professional and efficient manner.

• Operate the Golf Shop and club repair concessions in a professional manner with quality merchandise and club-fitting capabilities, commensurate with a top private club.

• Oversee all golf related purchasing and inventory controls.

• Oversee and approve all payroll, purchase orders and invoices.

• Assist and mentor professional staff and their professional development through the PGA/LPGA.

Outside Services

• Recruit, hire, train and supervise all Outside Service Staff and daily operations.

• Oversee the fleet of Club golf carts.

• Oversee member golf bag storage.

• Oversee the operation of the practice facilities.

Committees

• Attend Golf and Green Committee meetings.

• Develop the Club Golf Calendar in conjunction with the Golf Committee.

• Support the Handicap Chairman in ensuring Member handicaps are managed with the highest level of integrity. This includes score posting and scorecard audits, posting of Member handicaps, tournament handicap verification, and any needed communication with NCGA.

Play

• Enforce the Golf Rules, overall etiquette and regulations.

• Develop and manage an instruction program which includes individual and group instruction for men, women and juniors.

• Develop and manage all tournament operations and programs to service all members.

• Oversee the control and management of play.

• Maintain active classification in the PGA of America in good standing.

Management

• Develop, manage and maintain the Golf Operations budget and inventories.

• Maintain a close working relationship with the Golf Course Superintendent and other Department Heads.

• Conduct oneself in a professional manner and maintain a professional image at all times.

• Be informed of and promote all Club activities and services.

• Carry out any additional requests by the General Manager or Board of Directors.

Qualifications

• The ideal candidate is a team player dedicated to providing an exceptional Member experience. Must be a PGA professional with a minimum of 5 years of Head Professional or Director of Golf experience and recognized as a charismatic professional who truly enjoys the club environment.

• The ideal candidate will be a person who inspires managers and staff to provide exceptional service to members and who encourages team-building, employee motivation and service training; a mentor with proven “best in class” service for members and guests.

• A highly visible & engaged leader with excellent administrative and organizational skills. The candidate should have demonstrated abilities in providing leadership and guidance to department managers, employees, committees and vendors.

• Possess exceptional financial and budgeting acumen.

• Strong leader who recognizes the need to stay fresh and relevant in today’s Club environment while preserving the traditions of the Club.

• Especially strong communication and interpersonal skills are considered essential, as is the competency to be a strong, confident, accountable leader, diplomatic yet forthright with all club constituencies.

• High level of golfing and teaching ability is desired.

JOB STRUCTURE

Salary and Benefits

Base Salary for the position: $200,000

Additional Bonus and Lesson Potential: $25,000 based on performance

Total Compensation Estimate: $225,000
