POSITION OVERVIEW
Title: Head Golf Professional
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Supervises: Supervises all Golf Department staff
Position Description: The Head Golf Professional is an exempt year-round position responsible for overseeing golf department operations, including but not limited to, golf play and tournament coordination, shop sales and management, and training and managing all Golf Department staff. This role ensures the highest level of service as meets expectations of Club members. Performs all work in accordance with essential functions and responsibilities as described below and in the spirit of the Club’s mission and vision.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Directs the Assistant and Teaching Professionals, Outside Services, and Golf Shop staff. Oversees the hiring, terminating, and development of golf employees in accordance with Club policies and procedures. Guides training, scheduling, approves timesheets, and department performance appraisal and staff improvement.
Provides the highest level of service to Club members and guests. Is knowledgeable of members and anticipates their needs. Facilitates friendly and professional relationships with membership, encouraging play opportunities throughout the year.
Professionally, respectfully, and tactfully interprets, informs, and enforces Club policies with members, guests, and staff. Oversees the reservation system, starting, monitoring, and pace of play. Responsible for tracking and verifying all players and guests, green fees, golf cars, club care, lockers, and handicap fees.
Develops and manages an innovative tournament program and is responsible for all golfing events. Arranges outings for members at NGC and their winter clubs.
Develops, provides, and oversees an enhanced golf instruction program and player development including individual and group clinics, and junior golf program. Conducts lessons for members throughout the year.
Responsible for Golf Shop retail operations; sells, displays, promotes, and merchandises inventory. Oversees the retail point of sale system. Directs buying plan and golf department purchasing. Coordinates with vendor representatives to achieve the highest possible incentives and trains golf staff in product knowledge. Oversees scheduling and promoting demo days and trunk shows. Ensures member database includes and tracks important dates, spending, sizes, and preferences.
Responsible for inventory management; conducts monthly inventories, prepares orders and returns. Accurately records, reviews, and approves vendor invoices and credit memos. Minimizes shrinkage by enforcing inventory control procedures.
Develops Golf Department Operating Procedures and Training Forms manual.
Liaisons with the Golf Course Manager making recommendations on the upkeep, maintenance, and development of the course.
Plans annual Golf department budget and forecasts for revenues, expenses, labor costs, and capex. Monitors department financial performance and makes adjustments to ensure financial goals are met.
Performs analysis and compiles reports as directed by the COO and Club President.
Oversees golf car fleet and its repair and maintenance.
Observes all Club safety practices and protocols.
Responsible for the correct appearance, organization, and cleanliness of the shop and stock room areas, equipment, and fixtures. Reports deficiencies and maintenance concerns. Troubleshoots computer issues with tech support as directed.
Assists with NGC seasonal opening and closing procedures.
Keeps informed of industry standards and trends. Pursues related continuing education and training opportunities. Maintains necessary certifications and applicable professional affiliations.
Attends and conducts golf and club-related meetings as required. Works collaboratively with the NGC management team.
Performs other duties as designated by the COO.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Including, but not limited to, the following:
Bachelor’s degree
Ten years of professional experience at a private golf club; five years as a Head Golf Professional and three years in Golf Shop Merchandising Preferred
Active Class A member of the PGA of America or LPGA with enhanced certifications (Specialized, Certified, Master Professional Preferred)
A true leader capable of recruiting, training, and motivating a service-minded team
Detailed knowledge of golf industry standards and retail shop operations with high attention to detail and great organizational skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Polished and professional demeanor in manner and appearance
Excellent Player
Computer skills (Excel, Word, Publisher, POS System, Tee Time Software, Event Man)
