ABOUT THE MIDWEST PGA

Kansas City | The Midwest Section is one of 41 geographic Sections that make up the PGA of America. Approximately 251 PGA Members and 55 Associates strive to promote the enjoyment and growth of the game of golf in the Midwest region. We position the Midwest Section PGA and our members as leaders in the business, teaching and playing the game, and impacting lives through golf.


The Midwest Section PGA encompasses the entire Kansas City area and more, from St. Joseph to the north, east to Richmond, Springfield, Branson, and Joplin to the south, continuing west through the Flint Hills of Kansas to Colorado, and north to the Nebraska border.

Our Mission:

The mission of the Midwest Section PGA is to create and maintain the Section as a viable, valuable, visible professional organization. The Section shall serve the member by offering and delivering outstanding education programs, providing governance and growth of the game initiatives, as well as playing opportunities.

POSITION OVERVIEW

JOB TITLE | Executive Director

REPORTS TO | Section President, Officers, & Board of Directors

SUPERVISES | All Section Staff

The Executive Director will manage all Section business activities and programs in accordance with Association and Section objectives. Duties will include managing staff, assets and providing programs. The Executive Director will coordinate and provide programs and services including; education, tournaments, meetings, fundraising activities, and member services. Additionally, the Executive Director will ensure ongoing and regular communication to the members of the Section of all Association related news and information.

The Midwest Section PGA Executive Director shall also serve in the capacity of Executive Director for the Midwest PGA Foundation, and shall fulfill the same prescribed duties and responsibilities, answering to the Foundation Board of Directors.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:


GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Shall be chief executive officer and administrator of the Section, responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Section, and has the responsibility to the Board and Membership to make sure the Section is operated in an efficient manner.

  • Update, implement and enforce Section constitution, by-laws, regulations, and policies MPGA | ED/CEO established by the Board of Directors.

  • Shall be authorized to speak for the Section and shall keep the Officers and Board of Directors advised of such statements.


ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP

  • Understands and implements the mission of the Section.

  • Works as an advocate for the Section before members, clients/sponsors, and the general public.

  • Serves and/or represents the Section on varied associations/boards as approved by the Board.

  • Understands the needs of the Section's members and clients and seeks to fill those needs with the Sections' programs and services.

  • Is recognized as a leader among peers.

  • Gains respect and support of the other persons and organizations that may come in contact with the Section.

  • Stays current about new ideas and current trends among similar organizations.

  • Ensure all member classifications and job information is current and accurate.

  • Coordinate all Code of Ethics procedures from beginning to end, acting in accordance with PGA of America Code of Ethics guidelines and procedures.


BUSINESS AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

  • Shall be authorized to enter into contracts on behalf of the Section and shall keep the Officers and Board of Directors aware of such contracts.

  • Accountable for all financial affairs of the Section and its subsidiary companies and shall maintain proper internal controls to protect Section assets.

  • Assure that Section is adequately insured and that all governmental and legal requirements of the Section are met.

  • Approve all expenditures and manage the annual budget of the Section.

  • Explores and proposes to the Board new potential sources of revenue or finance for programs and services.

  • Work with the Section's Finance Committee and the PGA of America in preparing all financial records, reports and tax filings.

  • Provide timely and detailed monthly financial reports to the Officers and Board, including variances and appropriate explanations.

  • With the assistance of key staff, prepare the annual budget for approval by the Board on an agreed upon timeline.

  • Shall ensure all ADP requirements are met and the Section is operated in compliance with the PGA of America and its Section Activity Guidelines.


OFFICE ADMINISTRATION

  • Report and be accountable to the Officers of the Section.

  • Responsible for writing job descriptions for each employee of the Section office.

  • Shall train, supervise, counsel, and review all employees.

  • Shall hire, reprimand or dismiss employees.

  • Responsible for the professional development and career progression of Section staff members.

  • Shall make employee salary and benefit recommendations to the Section Officers and Finance Committee.

  • Establish and implement employment and office policies and procedures.

  • Shall be an ex-officio member of all committees of the Section. Work with and on behalf of all Committee chairpersons.

  • Shall prepare and distribute all meeting agendas, verify attendance and provide and maintain all board and committee meeting minutes.

  • Shall set his/her own schedule to meet the requirements and duties of the position.


ASSOCIATION REPRESENTATION

  • Attend all Board Meetings and General Membership Meetings unless other Association business prohibits such attendance.

  • Attend the PGA of America Annual Meeting, District meetings, Regional meetings, and the National Executive Directors Conference at the expense of the Section, and the PGA Show with the approval of the Section Officers.

  • Serve on any PGA of America committees if chosen.

  • Coordinate and communicate Section delegation travel and lodging to National, Regional, District, and section meetings.

  • Work closely with PGA of America Career Consultant to maximize benefit to members and employers located within the Section.

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with allied associations.


BOARD RELATIONSHIPS

  • Ensures that the board is informed about the issues, needs, and operation of the Section.

  • Offers direction to the Board, when needed, on issues requiring Board Action and makes appropriate recommendations based on thorough study and analysis.

  • Interprets and executes the intent of Board policy.

  • Seeks, and accepts constructive criticism of work from the Board.

  • Supports Board policy/actions to staff, members, and the public.

  • Understands his/her role in administration of Board policy and direction.

  • Responds in a timely manner to supply the Board with all requested information.

  • Remains impartial to Board members and Section members, treating all in an equal manner.

  • Refrains from criticism of the Board and individual Board members outside Board meetings.

  • Works directly with the Board to resolve differences of opinion.

  • Freely offers opposition to any matter under discussion by the Board, until a Board decision is made, after-which he/she subordinates his/her view to those of the Board.

  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of the employee/employer relationship with the Board.


STRATEGIC PLANNING (LONG AND SHORT TERM)

  • Coordinate and supervise preparation of the Section’s long and short-range business objectives.

  • Supervise formulation of the annual Section Business Plan and ensure its submission to PGA of America.


SPONSOR & PARTNER DEVELOPMENT

  • Responsible for the procurement of all corporate sponsorship and partnership sales for the Section with an eye to growing new partnerships.

  • Maintain all appropriate sponsorship and marketing contracts.

  • Work closely with all Section sponsors to ensure their satisfaction.


MIDWEST PGA FOUNDATION

  • Serve in the capacity of Executive Director of the Midwest PGA Foundation. In this capacity shall be responsible for managing and supervising the Midwest Section PGA staff to perform the administration of all Foundation programs and activities.

  • Work in cooperation with the Foundation Board of Directors to fulfill all necessary requirements and reporting as required by state and federal regulations to maintain 501c3 status.


MEMBER PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

  • In coordination with the Employment Committee and PGA Career Services, be an integral part in the Section employment and club relations efforts.

  • In cooperation with the Section Education Committee, administrate education programs for Section members corresponding to industry demands.

  • In cooperation with the Section Tournament Committee, administrate the annual Section tournament schedule.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for the position, the following qualifications are required:


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • PGA of America Member in good standing is preferred; non-PGA applicants will be considered.

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years relevant experience required.

  • PGA Section, PGA of America, Allied Association or other golf administration experience preferred but not required.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong interpersonal skills to ensure a cooperative environment within the Association, staff, Section membership, sponsors, golf facility leaders, and the community. This individual will be the face of our organization across the Section and the industry, so a high level of professionalism is paramount.

  • Marketing and business development expertise and success, specifically as it relates to sponsorships and partnerships with a proven track record of successful revenue generation experience preferred.

  • Strong financial acumen, including but not limited to managing and developing budgets, creating business plans, managing financial assets, banking, and reporting.

  • A demonstrated history of non-profit association management to include all of the legal and financial obligations entailed in non-profit management.

  • Excellent leadership and talent management skills.

  • Experience in general association management and working with a Board of Directors, committees and volunteer base preferred

  • Intimately familiar with the organizational structure, culture and history of the PGA of America with strong relationships in the Midwest Section preferred.

  • Proven ability to design, develop, and grow revenue producing Junior Golf programs including developmental and competitive tours.

  • Proven ability with sponsor procurement and foundation fundraising.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Base Salary $105,000.00 - $118,000.00


MPGA Year End Bonus $2,000.00 - $5,000.00

Criteria for bonus plan:

  • Successful Korn Ferry Events

  • Business Plan & Action Plans (PGA of America)

  • Budget Performance

  • Programs – conducting successful education opportunities, executing quality tournaments

  • Adherence to Section Activity Guidelines


MPGA Foundation Bonus $1,000.00 - $4,000.00

Criteria for bonus plan:

  • Successful Footprints in Fairways Pro-Am Event

  • Successful Not All Heroes Wear Capes Tournament

  • Additional Fundraising


Auto Allowance $6,600.00 ($550.00 per month stipend)

Health Allowance $6,000.00 (reimbursable - $500.00 per month stipend)


Commissions Structure on Partnerships

Separate from Bonus Plan in addition to Salary

  • New 10%

  • Repeat 5%


Expected total compensation

$130,000 to $150,000+
