Title: General Manager
Reports to: President of the Board of Governors
Supervises: All Club Operations
Position Description: The General Manager is responsible for all operations of the Club, including those pertaining to golf, food and beverage, greens, racquet sports, facilities and maintenance. Additionally, the General Manager will manage all club activities, ensuring that all services provide an exceptional sport and hospitality experience.
The General Manager leads in the development and oversight of the annual budget and ensures departments have documented annual goals to improve the member experience and the improve /maintain the club assets based on committee and member feedback and commensurate with the Club vision.
The General Manager is accountable for the club’s overall performance, fostering a positive team culture that consistently upholds superior service standards, operational efficiency, fiscal responsibility and the Club’s core values. Oversight of compliance of policies and procedures by members and staff, and monitoring of adherence to laws related to business operations.
The General Manager works closely with the Board of Governors and the Executive Committee and reports directly to the President of the Board of Governors.
Member Services:
Provide consistent and sincere engagement with members, maintaining highly visibility to members and staff at the Club.
Strong leadership skills in a positive and encouraging manner for the members, guests and staff.
Create and maintain a first-class service culture throughout the Club property.
Address and find resolution to member and guest complaints and suggestions, general service, employee attitude, maintenance, and presentation of the clubhouse operations.
Provide clear and timely communications with the membership.
Have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work with an array of membership and employees in a productive and adapting manner.
Personnel Management:
Provide leadership and oversight of recruiting, hiring and development of Club Personnel.
Provide support and mentorship for development of all direct reports. Instill the “team-player” concept in all employees and to coach, counsel and evaluate Club staff.
Ensure that a positive spirit and healthy work environment exists throughout the Club, one that is free of safety risks and all forms of employee harassment.
Maintain an effective communication program where employees are treated in a fair, structured and consistent manner.
Function as an administrative and communication link between all departments at the Club.
Help to facilitate a team environment with high moral and ethical standards with efficient use of resources to position the Club to be a desired employer.
Ensure that all employees have received, reviewed and have signed the Club’s most current Employee Handbook annually.
Ensure position posting for all management roles, and collaborate with Board on the vetting of candidates in our major management positions.
Present organizational changes and promotions to the Board for input/feedback on such proposals for major management positions.
Display a hands-on approach and lead by example. Be visible and approachable to staff, members, and guests.
Assist the Department Heads as well as the Club in developing and implementing long-range (strategic) and annual (business) plans, operating reports, forecasts, and budgets.
Responsible for all direct reports and department heads.
Conduct annual developmental reviews with direct reports.
Participate in relevant committee meetings and activities when necessary.
Participate in Board meetings as requested by the Club President.
Responsible for recruiting, hiring, and ensuring proper documentation of all employees.
Responsible for employee discipline, including but not limited to termination of employment in consultation with the President and Administrative Committee.
Organizes and facilitates meetings of department heads. Serves as an ad-hoc member of all club committees and is available to attend at least one meeting of each committee annually.
Further his/her own continued development as a club management professional as a member of the PGA and CMAA.
Financial Management:
Work collaboratively with the Department Heads, Clubhouse CFO, and Board of Governors to prepare the annual operating and capital budgets for all Club operations.
Provide management and oversight of the operations to attain the desired budget results.
Monitor the budget each month and direct the taking of corrective action as necessary to assure that the budgeted goals are attained.
Provide insight to all Club personnel regarding annual budgets, capital spending plans, fiscal controls and operational guidelines.
Responsible for all labor cost payouts and maintain them within the constraints of the budget.
Work collaboratively with any member serving as project manager of major capital projects to sustain operational continuity, a positive member experience, and input on project vision and execution.
Report monthly and annually on financials and all metrics on golf, racquets and F&B activity.
Responsibilty for all contracts, purchasing, and licensing of software.
Operational Responsibilities:
Understand and abide by Club policies and procedures. Suggest changes and execute or provide oversight in the implementation of change.
Oversee content and manage communications and promotional materials.
Assure that the Club is run in accordance with all applicable local, state and federal laws.
Address and remediate facility and grounds issues which could pose safety issues to members, staff and guests.
Ensure the F&B Director and team are observing all health and safety standards with timely safety inspections.
Disseminate information effectively and coordinate activities between departments on a timely basis.
Oversees the care and maintenance of all the Club’s physical assets and facilities.
Appraise Club President and Board of Governors of potential issues and/or occurrences as related to the effective operation of the Club.
Oversee use and maintain functionality of audio / visual infrastructure, including security, surveillance, and fire systems.
Create and maintain a list of qualified contract personnel to address maintenance and repair needs.
Performs other duties as directed by the President of the Board of Governors.

Bachelors Degree Minimum
PGA/CMAA certification
5-10 years Hospitality / Club Service Industry experience
5 years Management of multiple departments and employees experience
5 years budgetary preparation and financial management experience
