McHenry, IL | McHenry Golf Club, formerly known as McHenry Country Club, is a historic gem nestled in the scenic landscape of McHenry County. The 18-hole championship golf course offers a challenging yet enjoyable experience for golfers of all skill levels, with lush fairways, strategically placed hazards, and stunning views throughout. Under new ownership the club is undertaking a multimillion-dollar improvement plan which focuses on golf course and maintenance improvements and clubhouse upgrades.
The clubhouse combines modern amenities with classic charm, offering a cozy retreat for members and guests. After a round, relax and enjoy the culinary expertise of Addison’s Steakhouse which is housed at McHenry Golf Club.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Title: General Manager/Head Golf Professional
Reports to: Vince Juarez, Vice President / Operations
Supervises: Superintendent, golf shop & administrative team members
Position Description: The General Manager/Head Golf Professional will manage and direct the overall operational and fiscal performance of the golf, clubhouse, and course operations in compliance and in accord with Company policies and procedures. He/She will develop and implement fiscal, operational, and business development plans and strategies. They will establish and administer operational standards and quality performance guidelines for all system operating functions and staff. The food and beverage operations are outsourced to a third party and are not part of the General Manager / Head Professional’s responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Direct, coordinate, and monitor the development of the facility’s annual business plan and operating/capital budgets. Make necessary adjustments and approve the final version for submission to senior management.
Monitor and evaluate financial performance relative to budget goals and objectives. Analyze budget variances, and develop and implement action plans to achieve appropriate adjustments.
Analyze and evaluate operations to determine productivity efficiencies vs. budgeted standards. Develop and initiate action plans to achieve appropriate adjustments.
Oversee daily operating activities including opening, closing, and securing the golf shop and storage buildings; managing daily cash flow to ensure cash/credit card charges balance with sales receipts; monitoring staff interaction with guests to ensure proper customer service; maintaining clean, presentable and fully stocked merchandise displays; ensuring that the golf shop, storage areas, cart shed, and grounds are maintained to applicable appearance standards;
Design and implement sales incentive programs for golf shop staff. Monitor results and recommend modifications to achieve budgeted retail sales goals.
Track types and quantity of golf rounds played. Monitor customer preferences, usage patterns, and satisfaction with Company products and services. Assess the quality of internal and/or external customer service and speed of play. Recommend plans for continued improvement.
Interact with guests in a congenial and professional manner. Maintain a pleasant and professional telephone manner at all times. Schedule tee times and handle customer inquiries and/or complaints in accordance with operating policies and procedures. Ensure all phone calls are handled before the third ring.
Plan and conduct individual and group lesson programs and golf clinics.
Work with golf associations and other groups to schedule tournaments and group outings. Ensure organization and efficient operation and coordination of golf shop, cart service, and food & beverage activities.
Ensure that ancillary services including, but not limited to, the handicapping system, guest programs, and driving range facilities are efficiently organized and meet customer needs.
Represent the Company in meetings and/or presentations with various clients, municipalities, and other outside agencies. Participate in due-diligence site visits and provide market analysis for various projects, when requested.
Review and approve financial expenditures and transactions relative to operations, services, and facilities/equipment within and according to established guidelines and procedures.
Manage the proper communication of system activities to help ensure coordination of activities between departments. Communicate clearly, tactfully, and persuasively with employees and customers as applicable. Interface directly with department management when appropriate.
Provide appropriate leadership in accord with Company culture and mission statement to promote positive employee morale and performance quality.
Provide direction, supervision, and guidance to subordinate management staff to assist with their skill development and help ensure the successful development and implementation of appropriate departmental operating and safety plans, goals, and policies & procedures.
Oversee and manage employment activities, including but not limited to, personnel recruitment and selection, performance evaluations, training, compensation, discipline and termination, etc. to ensure compliance with Company human resources policies and procedures.
Assess the quality of customer service activities in all departments. Formulate general plans and oversee their implementation towards achieving increased customer service excellence.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, municipal officials, and community organizations.
Maintain knowledge of current and projected industry developments through continuous attention to golf industry periodicals and participation in relevant trade associations and organizations.
Assure the efficient and timely submission of all required operational, financial, budgetary, and related reports.
Ad Hoc projects as necessary.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Including, but not limited to, the following:
College degree preferred.
2 years applicable functional, supervisory and/or management experience, preferably in the golf industry.
Demonstrated experience and capability in the areas of social media, budget development, fiscal management, strategic planning, staff management.
Demonstrated quality written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills..
Ability to analyze and solve problems; efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision; work flexible hours as required including nights/weekends.
Positive attitude, professional manner and appearance in all situations.
