Lakewood Country Club

Head Golf Professional

ABOUT THE CLUB

Dallas, TX | In 1912, Lakewood Country Club's graceful three-story clubhouse overlooked a woodland that rolled and tumbled pleasantly over this fast growing East Dallas Neighborhood. The Club's founding fathers knew that the land at the corner of Gaston and Abrams would be a perfect spot for Dallas' second 18-hole golf course.

Originally built by Scotsman, Tom Bendelow, the course would have success through the years and hosted the Texas Amateur in 1942 and the Dallas Victory Open in 1944. Byron Nelson won the Victory open which would go on to become the Byron Nelson Classic. The long and happy association between Lakewood and Mr. Nelson continued into the millennium with the Byron Nelson Junior Classic Invitational. The course has undergone some renovations through the years beginning with Ralph Plummer in 1947 but in 1995 a relationship with Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore began and they made changes in 1995, 2003 and again in 2014. The club has hosted the 1998 Texas Mid-Amateur Championship, the 2000 Texas Amateur, 2001 AJGA Boy’s Championship and the 24th Annual Joe Black Cup Matches, US Open Sectional Qualifiers, the Northern Texas PGA Championship and in June of 2017, the Texas State Amateur.

Lakewood has a very active membership that is conveniently located near downtown Dallas. Gilbert Freeman is the Director of Golf and has served Lakewood since 1994. The General Manager, Ray DeTullio has served for the past 20 years.
