Minnetonka Beach, MN | Lafayette Club is located on a rolling 42-acre site in Minnetonka Beach. Laid out in 1899, it is Minnesota’s 3rd oldest Club and golf links, designed by Scottish designer, William Watson. The fabled 9-hole jewel features lake views from all holes, and small tabletop sloping greens protected by strategically located bunkers recently rebuilt with white BESTSAND (Ohio). Playable for the beginner yet ever-challenging for the advanced golfer, the course has nurtured the skills of two National championship players and members of the Minnesota Golf Hall of Fame.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Title: Head Golf Professional
Reports to: General Manager/COO
Supervises: Assistant Professionals and Golf Services Staff
Position Description: The Head Golf Professional will oversee the Lafayette Club’s entire golf operation to provide the highest standards of excellence for member and guest enjoyment. Manage all golf and golf-related activities and businesses including management of the golf shop and driving range, simulator, supervising professional staff, enforcing club rules and regulations, overseeing the club's handicap system under the rules and regulations required by the USGA-accredited course, providing skilled and personable golf instructions for all players levels and ages, supervising the rental and maintenance of golf cars, and presenting department activities to the Golf & Grounds Committee.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Design, promote, and direct all golf activities including daily operational and staff management responsibilities.
Interpret and enforce golf and club rules and regulations without prejudice. Ensure the staff is familiar with club rules and policies and enforces them.
Maintain a visible presence on the course during peak times of play.
Supervise golf play of members and guests from the first tee and maintain starting times according to the club’s rules and regulations.
Maintain records relating to player and guest rounds and other statistics.
Under the direction of the golf committee, implement and administer a system governing the start of play and the handicap system.
Supervise the work of the Assistant Golf Professionals, providing coaching and development opportunities.
Organize and conduct club tournaments and related activities.
Provide marshals for daily play, tournaments, and at other times as determined by the Golf Committee; supervise marshals to help ensure that expected performance is delivered.
Design, organize, manage, and enhance golf leagues and clinics.
Plan social evenings and events to promote golf and fellowship among members and guests.
Interact with the Sr. Food and Beverage Manager about food and beverage needs for events.
Manage new golf member orientation program.
Prepare annual and monthly budgets for golf operations; take corrective actions necessary to help assure that budget goals are attained.
Collect charges and fees for all golf-related activities.
Order supplies associated with golf activities and maintenance of the golf simulator. Maintain a good working relationship with vendors to ensure the best pricing models.
Act as management liaison with the Golf Committee and attend all meetings. Recommend policy changes in the areas of user fee structure, hours of operation, guest privileges, etc.
Represent the club in area professional events including local, state, or national events with the approval of the Golf Committee.
Meet regularly with the General Manager, Head of Golf Instruction, and Golf Course Superintendent to review the condition of the golf course and make recommendations on areas needing attention.
Provide for the most efficient use of tee times using ForeTees and ensure all tee times are properly scheduled and attended by players; with possible assistance of 1st Tee starter and frequent on-course marshaling.
Assure that sufficient golf cars are available and ready for play.
Assist in the development of short and long-range plans for improvements to the club facilities and courses.
Attend national and sectional conferences and meetings, merchandise shows, and educational and professional shows to encourage development and enhance the quality and image of the club.
Assist in supervising and inspecting design improvements and capital outlays to golf course and golf facilities.
Attend leadership and staff meetings as applicable.
Perform other appropriate tasks assigned by the general manager.
Select, supervise, train, and evaluate golf cart maintenance personnel and Golf Pro Shop, golf range, golf bag and club storage employees, and on-course personnel.
Plan professional development and training activities for reporting golf staff.
Supervise and schedule the work hours for the Golf Operation, golf course, golf simulator, and golf cart staff within the parameters of the annual operating budget.
Provide a high level of customer service as expected at a private club to ensure a positive experience for club members and guests. Ability to quickly learn member names and preferences (walk vs ride, preferred golf partners, etc).
Familiarity with technology that improves member and guest satisfaction such as electronic tee time scheduling and tournament setup and scoring technology.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Including, but not limited to, the following:
3-5 years of private club experience as a Head Golf Professional or equivalent work experience
Class A Member of the PGA of America
Prior experience in all facets of golf operations, including inventory and financial control; employee motivation and training; golf instruction; and tournament and event management.
Patience in coaching the novice golfer and the ability to offer constructive criticism tactfully and praise his or her efforts as their swing improves.
Good working knowledge of golf course maintenance.
Knowledge of marketing, financial management, and retail operations.
Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions; skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
Knowledge of technology is available to enhance member and guest satisfaction with the club and events.
Knowledge of and ability to perform required roles during emergency and dangerous weather situations.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, stand, and lift 50 pounds.
Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, and pulling.
Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
Moderate noise level in the work environment.
Ability to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The club will provide compensation and benefits package commensurate with experience and qualifications. This includes but is not limited to:
Base salary $100,000-$110,000
Total compensation up to $130,000
