Renowned for its casual elegance and rich history, the club fosters a warm and welcoming environment where members and staff share a deep sense of community and camaraderie.
The club holds a special place in golf history as the home course of the legendary Payne Stewart, featuring a pub in his honor. Members often join for the top-quality championship golf course, but it is the relationships, camaraderie, and sense of community that keep them coming back.
Recently, Hickory Hills completed a significant renovation of its Clubhouse facilities, positioning the Club for long-term success with modern amenities. These include:
18-hole Championship golf course
A zero-entry resort-style pool
A large outdoor tennis and pickleball complex

Meeting spaces equipped for business gatherings and presentations
Facilities capable of hosting events and gatherings of any size and scope
A modern, well-appointed Golf Shop and practice facilities
An outdoor barn event space that hosts some of the Club's signature events including farm-to-table meals and the Barn Bash
The Club was opened in 1926 by John T. Woodruff as a place for his nearby hotel guests to play golf. Famed architect Perry Maxwell designed the original nine holes when the Club was first established. It quickly became an 18-hole golf course and was converted to a private country club at about that time. Known as the "Home of the Huckle", Hickory Hills celebrates its heritage with weekly specials. The Club has many longstanding traditions and legends including Payne’s Bunkers, Wheeler’s Grove, and a nearly 70-year tradition in The Snowflake Ball.
With six competition lanes, the junior swim team is a must-do summer activity for families. Tennis also enjoys robust programming with racquet programs including tennis and pickleball for adults and juniors. Golf has a long-standing tradition of Championship play with six Missouri Amateur Champions having come from the HHCC membership. Fitness classes and personal training are available in the fitness center. Members of all ages are sure to find many ways to stay active and healthy at the Club.
Members and staff appreciate the lifestyle in Southwest Missouri, which boasts an array of outdoor activities including world-class golf and fishing, beautiful hiking and biking trails, and a robust social and cultural scene with live music and dining options to suit any taste. Springfield offers excellent schools, from early childhood education to top-notch colleges and universities, making it a vibrant and safe community to live in and raise a family. The area enjoys four distinct seasons with typically mild winters, and a cost of living below the national average, making living and working in the area very attractive.
