Oradell, NJ | Hackensack Golf Club was founded in 1899 and moved to its current location in 1928, with a new course designed by Charles Banks. A series of alterations made to the course over the years softened or eliminated many of Banks’ signature elements, but the Club undertook a restoration over the last 15 years intended to recapture the genius of Banks’ original design.
Club leadership has also embraced best practices for course conditioning, with significant investments in equipment and infrastructure like drainage and irrigation. Aggressive aeration and sanding of HGC’s greens have greatly improved the speed and consistency of the greens.
In recent years Hackensack has been featured in social media and other channels highlighting the course design; HGC’s 11th hole is featured on the cover of golf photographer Evan Schiller’s 2023 calendar.
Hackensack Golf Club takes its responsibility as a long-time member of the metropolitan New York and New Jersey golf community seriously. In the past 15 years alone, HGC has hosted multiple regional championships and USGA qualifiers, notably the MGA Amateur, US Amateur qualifiers, and the 2013 and 2023 NJSGA Open Championships. The NJ State Golf Association awarded the 2033 State Open to Hackensack at the close of this year’s Open.
With a full membership and waiting list, to accommodate member participation and growth HGC will start a major renovation of our locker rooms, golf service center and pro shop starting in October 2024.
