Reports to: General Manager/Chief Operating Officer
Supervises: Director of Instruction, First Assistant Golf Professional, Assistant Golf Professional(s), Merchandiser & Player Services Staff
Position Description: Under the general supervision of the General Manager/Chief Operating Officer, The Director of Golf/Head Golf Professional oversees all golf operations including the golf shop, golf range, practice areas & quarry course, and player service/cart storage area. Furthermore, the Director of Golf/Head Golf Professional will plan, delegate, and/or execute all golf services at Green Bay Country Club including lessons, events, merchandising, and player services. The position will promote an exceptional "golf experience," and provide excellent services and programs ensuring the highest level of services to Members and Guests.
Oversee and participate in all facets of the golf shop, golf range, practice areas, quarry course and Player Service operations.
Accountable for the management and performance of all golf shop and applicable department operations and services; assure high standards and total customer service satisfaction.
Establish golf shop operations policies and ensure proper hiring, training, supervising, personal development, and corrective action in accordance with fair labor standards, safety and established policy.
Implement operating procedures and training manuals for the golf operation.
Schedules and chairs regular staff meetings focused on customers, operations, revenue growth, cost containment, staff development and continuous improvement.
Maintain a successful working relationship with all department leaders and attend senior management weekly meetings.
Attends as invited committee/staff/association meetings representing the club.
Develop/coordinate annual business plans for the golf operation, including proper budget development and execution.
Coordinate and ensure all written correspondence, reporting, newsletters, and communications for the golf operation.
Meet, greet, and welcome new and prospective members.
Enforce all rules and regulations governing golf course usage and care.
Develop and oversee an innovative tournament schedule and golf activities program that services all member segments.
Collaborate with the Director of Instruction with golf instruction, clinics, golf schools, and player development programs for all membership types.
Oversee and collaborate with the club’s merchandiser with the club’s profitable golf shop merchandise that is consistent with member demographics and needs.
Oversee golf marketing initiatives with merchandiser, including all promotional materials, play recruitment, yield management, golf packages, and outside events plus the promotion of new golf memberships (where applicable)
Plan and execute all fiscal areas and performance for the golf operations including planning, budgeting, forecasting, monitoring, and correction.
Establish sales goals and forecasts for all golf programs and services; generate, monitor and analyze reports.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of and commitment to the GBCC brand by consistently upholding established standards and collaborating closely with the Club’s in-house marketing and communications team.
Engage with members to achieve complete knowledge to create a level of experience that matches the Board of Directors vision and strategy.

Play golf with members of all skill levels as time and duties permit.
Oversee and enforce golf shop operations policies, procedures, controls, and fee structures to ensure the safekeeping of assets, inventory, and resources.
Foster environment for problem resolution to facilitate faster improvements to result in improved working relationships and Member/Guest satisfaction.
Establish and maintain responsibility for the cleanliness and appearance of the Golf Shop, storage areas, merchandise displays, and golf cart storage area.
Plan for and schedule manpower to include assistant professionals, merchandiser, and Player Service staff. Establish equipment and supply requirements for the department and maintain accountability for cost, utilization and performance of employees and equipment.
Establish and maintain the daily "pace of play standard."
Implement and administer the club tournament program. Assist in the development of promotional materials to communicate the programs to the Members and Guests.
Direct Player Service operations, ensuring that the staff properly controls Membership and Guest services. Set-up and maintenance of practice facilities, course advisors, golf cart maintenance, golf bag storage, and golf club repair activities.
Develop the annual golf shop operating budget and manage line items in accordance with that budget while controlling general expenses for the entire golf operation.
Assist the Director of Instruction with teaching programs.
Elevate and expand the Club’s instructional program by developing innovative, engaging, and inclusive golf programs that inspire participation and support the continued growth of the game.
Assist in the planning and execution of outings and tournaments. Coordinate purchases of high-quality gifts and awards.
Verify the accuracy of prices for state and federal taxes and other charges on all sales tickets and accurately operate the point-of-sale system.
Ensure that all sub-departments of the Golf Operation are responsibly managed and supervised and that established service standards are maintained.
Hire and train all golf operations employees utilizing standard company procedures. Conduct and complete annual and semi-annual employee performance reviews and develop employee self-improvement programs and recommend changes in salary.
Professionally communicate information, sell merchandise, and become fully knowledgeable in all products and sales techniques. Anticipate the needs of Members and Guests and offer appropriate merchandise or alternatives.
Maintain control of employee uniforms, ensuring that uniforms and nametags are always worn and kept in proper condition and readily available to employees.
Answer telephones clearly and concisely and communicate information in a pleasant and professional manner.
Ensure monthly merchandise sales and inventory reports from the month-end are accurately prepared.
Carryout special projects or other duties as assigned.
Including, but not limited to, the following:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Sports Management or related field or equivalent experience.
Possess knowledge of general business administration practices and knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations as would be acquired through five to eight years of similar golf experience in progressively responsible positions.
Proven record of effective lesson programs, player development and client list.
Prior supervisory experience of multiple staff and departments, along with effective oral communication.
Must be a Class A Pro in good standing in an active classification.
Held managerial position that included work organizing, scheduling, assigning, and reviewing the work of personnel.
Oversaw hiring, training, instructing, appraising, counseling, and motivating assigned staff.
Maintained records, prepared reports, and correspondence, including required regulatory reports and records.
Effectively kept working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
Experience in managing and implementing divisional department budgets.
Exercise sound independent judgment within general policy guidelines.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment, and in an outdoor golf course and facility setting.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; kneel; use hands to handle or feel; and talk or hear.
Requires the physicality to carry clubs and swing a golf club.
Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, color vision, distance and peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
An essential function of the job is to be able to comply with all applicable federal, state and local safety and health regulations that would apply to this job.
