Avon, CT | Nestled in the Farmington Valley, the Golf Club of Avon is a private club providing its members with a full range of family-oriented recreational and social activities.
Founded in 1925, the Golf Club of Avon has emerged from a 9-hole golf course to a full-service country club that now provides 27 holes of golf to challenge every golfer's ability, a racquet center featuring eight Har-Tru courts, four pickleball courts, and three paddle tennis courts, an Aquatic Facility featuring a heated pool with a zero entry level area and a diving well.
As we prepare to celebrate our historic centennial year in 2025, we are also eagerly anticipating the arrival of our next Head Golf Professional—only the fourth to hold this prestigious role since 1975.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Title: Head Golf Professional
Reports to: General Manager
Supervises: Director of Instruction, First Assistant Golf Professional, Assistant Golf Professionals, Golf Operations Associates
Position Description: The Head Golf Professional is entrusted with the leadership and management of the golf operations, working in harmony with other departments to uphold and enhance the club’s member experience. This role is dedicated to providing an unparalleled golfing experience and exceptional service to all members and guests.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Leadership and Staffing:
Lead the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of all golf staff, including assistant and teaching professionals and outside assistants.
Establish and enforce policies and procedures, ensuring regular and effective staff meetings.
Golf Operations Management:
Oversee all aspects of golf services and operations, ensuring a seamless experience for members and guests.
Manage the rental, maintenance, and presentation of the golf car fleet.
Coordinate the efficient movement of players onto the course, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable pace of play.
Ensure accurate tracking and verification of all player charges, including golf cars, lessons, clinics, handicap fees, etc.
Programs and Services:
Administer the handicap program with precision and adherence to club standards.
Uphold and enforce all rules and regulations governing the golf course to ensure an orderly and enjoyable experience.
Design and manage a dynamic tournament schedule catering to a diverse range of member interests and skill levels.
Oversee Director of Golf Instruction with development programs and offering tailored experiences for all segments of the membership.
Ensure the practice facility operates smoothly and reflects the club’s standards of excellence.
Financial and Merchandising:
Collaborate with the General Manager in budget preparation, with a focus on forecasting and monitoring golf-related revenues and expenses.
Maintain a well-curated merchandise selection, aligning with member preferences and demographic trends.
Establish and achieve sales goals for all golf programs, supported by detailed monitoring and reporting.
Manage all purchasing related to golf operations with an emphasis on cost control and quality.
Implement stringent cash and inventory controls to safeguard assets and resources.
Oversee payroll and administrative duties for the golf staff, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Marketing and Communication:
Support efforts to attract new members and promote increased play among existing members.
Contribute to the development of newsletters, promotional materials, and informational content that reflect the club's brand.
Conduct market analysis to maintain a competitive position and align offerings with member expectations.
Innovation and Player Development:
Create and refine instructional programs designed to inspire enthusiasm and ongoing participation.
Develop comprehensive player development initiatives aimed at fostering a competitive spirit and guiding the growth of aspiring young players.
Relationship Management:
Cultivate a welcoming atmosphere, ensuring all members and guests feel valued and appreciated.
Maintain open communication and collaboration with the Superintendent and other department heads.
Demonstrate a professional demeanor that reflects positively on the club at all times.
Additional Responsibilities:
Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Including, but not limited to, the following:
Class A PGA Professional
At least 5 years of private country club experience
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The club will provide compensation and benefits package commensurate with experience and qualifications. This includes but is not limited to:
Salary: $160,000 - $180,000 per year
Total Anticipated Compensation Up To: $200,000
