The Connecticut PGA is one of the 41 sections of the PGA of America. Located in Glastonbury, Connecticut, the section is dedicated to serving over 350 PGA golf professionals in Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. The Connecticut PGA staff’s mission is to serve PGA of America golf professionals and to grow the game of golf through education, tournaments, employment and member services.
Title: Tournament Operations Director
Reports To: Executive Director
Position Description: The Tournament Operations Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing all competitive and social golf events conducted by the Connecticut Section PGA. This position ensures high-quality tournament operations that reflect the Section’s commitment to professionalism, integrity, and exceptional member service. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, comfortable with onsite event management, and experienced in golf operations or tournament administration.
Tournament Operations & Administration
Plan, schedule, and oversee all Connecticut Section PGA tournaments, qualifiers, championships, and special events.
Coordinate event preparation, including golf course setup, starting times, pairings, pace-of-play planning, scoring procedures, and rules application.
Manage onsite tournament execution, including staff, volunteers, officials, and scoring operations.
Ensure tournaments adhere to PGA of America and USGA rules, policies, and standards.
Work closely with host facilities to ensure course readiness, operational needs, and a positive experience for professionals, amateurs, and partners.
Player & Member Services
Serve as the primary point of contact for PGA Professionals and players regarding tournament schedules, eligibility, policies, and procedures.
Provide exceptional customer service and timely communication leading up to, during, and after events.
Manage tournament-related member inquiries, conflict resolution, and rules questions.
Technology & Systems Management
Utilize PGA and USGA tournament software platforms (e.g., Blue Golf, GHIN, etc.) for registration, pairings, scoring, and reporting.
Ensure timely and accurate posting of results, scoring summaries, and leaderboards.
Maintain event data, statistics, and historical records.
Rules of Golf & Governance
Apply and interpret the Rules of Golf and Section policies; serve as an onsite rules official when needed.
Assist in developing and updating the Section’s tournament regulations, points systems, and eligibility criteria.
Budgeting & Partnership Support
Assist in developing and managing the tournament department budget.
Work with staff and partners to deliver contractual obligations for sponsors, including branding, hospitality, and visibility at events.
Monitor tournament expenses and ensure fiscally responsible operations.
Staff, Volunteer & Committee Coordination
Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers, interns, and support staff.
Collaborate with the Tournament Committee and other Section committees on scheduling, policies, and enhancements to tournament programs.
Communications & Marketing Support
Provide post-event recaps, highlight stories, and assets for the Section’s communications channels.
Ensure consistent branding and professionalism across all tournament materials.
Including, but not limited to, the following:
Required
Bachelor’s degree in sport management, golf administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Experience in golf tournament operations or similar event management roles.
General knowledge of the Rules of Golf and tournament formats.
Excellent organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends during event season.
Proficiency with tournament management software (Blue Golf or similar)
Valid driver’s license and ability to lift 40+ pounds.
Preferred
PGA Membership or PGA Associate status.
Experience working with PGA Sections, golf associations, clubs, or golf events.
Strong public-facing communication skills and experience managing stakeholders.
The Section will provide compensation and benefits package commensurate with experience and qualifications. This includes but not limited to:
Starting annual salary of $55,000-$60,000 commensurate with experience.
