ABOUT THE CLUB

Bethesda, MD | On May 23, 1924, Congressional Country Club opened its doors to more than 7,000 persons of national and local prominence invited to the Gala Opening. The Club began as a place for businessmen and members of Congress to socialize but has been transformed to that of a family club with excellent facilities for golf, tennis, swimming, bowling, and dining.

Congressional now stands as the number one Platinum Club in the Nation

Congressional has a rich tradition of championship golf. The Club hosted the US Open in 1964, 1997, and 2011 and the 1976 PGA Championship. In September of 2018, Congressional partnered with the PGA of America bringing Major Championships back to Congressional. In addition to representing America for the 2037 Ryder Cup, Congressional will host five Major Championships and two National Championships over the next two decades.

The Blue Course underwent a full renovation beginning in October 2019 and re-opened on June 10, 2021. The Club selected Course Architect Andrew Green, whose portfolio includes renovation projects at Top 100 courses Inverness Golf Club in Toledo, Ohio and Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York. The “New” Blue Course is a classic design that provides challenge and enjoyment to golfers of all skill levels.

The Club will be opening a world class Performance Center in summer of 2022. The Performance Center will include 7 hitting stations with garage doors, 2 simulators, and a large practice putting green.

THE OPPORTUNITY

  • The Lead Assistant Professional is key role to support the Golf Operation in its ‘growth and to achieve unfounded levels of excellence.

  • The Lead Assistant will be an important leadership role that will cultivate and help develop a team to reach for premier service standards.

  • The successful candidate must possess organizational and management skills, excellent communication skills, credible playing ability, strong business acumen and merchandising capabilities.

  • It is imperative that the Lead Assistant have a passion for golf and the desire to be the leader of a service-oriented team driven to deliver an exceptional golf experience.

  • Head Professional, Jason Mills is entering his 5th season and PGA Director of Golf and Athletics Jason Epstein his 7th. Both have a passion for developing and advancing the Professional Staff.

  • The opportunity has opened as the previous professional has successfully advanced to a Head Professional position at a premier private club in the Chicago area.

  • Candidates should consider this opportunity as a short to medium-term commitment and a springboard to greater success in our industry.

  • It is expected that the person hired for this position will have an opportunity to interview for Head Professional opportunities within the next 2-3 years.

PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Responsible for managing the daily golf operations.

  • Actively lead a team of approximately 10 seasonal assistants and golf management interns.

  • Manage daily play and tournament play with an emphasis on a visible and attentive professional staff through scheduled first tee and on-course presence.

  • Recruit, interview, onboard and manage seasonal staff for all open positions.

  • Execute weekly schedules to the entire operation in conjunction with the Outside Operations Manager.

  • Support the outside service staff to ensure the highest quality of customer service is achieved.

  • Oversight of golf cart operations, practice facilities, and club storage

  • Assist in the inventory control of hard goods, demo clubs, soft goods, and special orders, and the processing and procurement of each category as needed.

  • Administer a tournament operations program using Golf Genius tournament software.

  • Provide a significant contribution to Player Development programs for juniors

  • Assist in coordinating golf activities with other departments

  • Actively involved in building the budget and monthly tracking of financials

  • Provide knowledgeable golf instruction to players of all skill levels.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Ownership and Leadership of various projects that assist in the operation's overall success

  • Provide Individual Lessons and Provide a comprehensive club fitting experience by using TrackMan.

  • Learn the Hiring/Interview/Culture fit process

  • Process bi-weekly payroll and commissions for the entire Golf Department.

  • Assist with Quarterly Golf Shop Inventories

  • Participate in the Junior Program as an instructor

  • Attend all Athletic Department and Golf Committee Meetings

  • Attend the PGA Show with the team

  • Participate in various club wide team opportunities

  • Involved with regular written and video communication to the membership on a variety of topics

  • Building your network; exposure to other leading operations and Professionals

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Traits

  • PGA Class A Member in good standing.

  • 3-5 years’ experience at a high-end private club.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive base salary commensurate with experience

    • $75,000 - $85,000 Base Salary

    • Total Anticipated Compensation up to $100,000
