Potomac, MD | Congressional has a rich tradition of championship golf. The Club hosted the US Open in 1964, 1997, and 2011, and the 1976 PGA Championship. In September of 2018, Congressional partnered with the PGA of America, bringing Major Championships back to Congressional. In addition to representing America for the 2037 Ryder Cup, Congressional will host five Major Championships and two National Championships over the next two decades.
The Blue Course underwent a full renovation under architect Andrew Green and re-opened in 2021 for the early summer of 2021. The “New” Blue Course is a classic design that provides a challenge and enjoyment to golfers of all skill levels.
The hub of all Teaching and Coaching at Congressional is the Golf Performance Center, which opened in 2022. The facility is world-class and has 7 bays, two simulators, a 1,000 sq Ft putting green, and the best technology the game has to offer. The Junior Indoor, a separate facility, has five fitting bays (three of which are simulators), and a putting green.

Position Description: Congressional Country Club is seeking a full-time PGA Director of Instruction to join a dynamic and talented team. The Club is seeking an energetic and motivated professional who has a proven track record of assisting golfers of all abilities - including advanced and competitive players - and enhance their overall enjoyment of the game.
Reporting to the Director of Golf, the Director of Instruction will play a central role in shaping and elevating the coaching experience at Congressional Country Club. This role offers the opportunity to lead one of the nation’s premier instructional programs within the Golf Performance Center, guiding coaching, daily operations, and long-term development.
The Director of Instruction will lead a high-performing team of direct reports, including the Senior Club Fitter, two Teaching Professionals, Performance Coach, and Director of Junior Golf. The position offers the opportunity to mentor and develop this talented team, fostering a collaborative, forward-thinking coaching culture. In this role, the Director will oversee and provide strategic guidance to the Director of Junior Golf, ensuring the junior program—which serves over 400 junior golfers—thrives through enhanced player development, competitive support, and comprehensive year-round programming.
Additionally, the Director will drive the continued growth and success of a robust lesson program that generates nearly $1 million in annual revenue and delivers over 7,000 lessons each year, personally teaching more than 1,200 lessons while ensuring excellence across all instructional offerings.
The Director will have access to state-of-the-art technologies—including Swing Catalyst, TrackMan, PuttView, and SAM PuttLab—to deliver a modern, data-driven approach to player development. They will design innovative programming, develop structured improvement pathways, and provide exceptional coaching to golfers of all levels, including advanced and competitive players, ensuring a highly personalized and impactful learning environment.
In addition, the role will integrate coaching efforts with club events, golf operations, and performance initiatives while supporting the growth of instructional participation and revenue. As a leader within one of the country’s most respected private clubs, the Director of Instruction will continue to position Congressional at the forefront of modern coaching and contribute meaningfully to the club’s reputation for excellence.
Instruction & Player Development
Provide daily oversight of instructional programming, ensuring alignment with the Club’s coaching philosophy and service standards.
Deliver high-level coaching utilizing Swing Catalyst, TrackMan, PuttView, SAM Putt Lab, and other performance technologies.
Lead the development, scheduling, and execution of group programs, long-term coaching plans, clinics, and member-engagement offerings.
Strengthen and expand the Junior Golf ecosystem in partnership with the Director of Junior Golf, helping create seamless performance pathways from beginner to elite levels.
Oversee the management and coordination of the Golf Performance Center technologies, ensuring proper calibration, maintenance, workflow efficiency, and usage standards.
Work with the Senior Director of Coaching and Tour Performance, maintaining open communication on strategic initiatives, staffing, technology integration, and program development.
Collaborate with Golf Operations, Fitness, and Club Leadership to enhance the overall member experience across departments.
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and monitoring instruction-related revenue streams, ensuring financial sustainability and growth.
Represent the instructional team in club-wide communication, events, professional development, and PGA engagement.
Maintain an industry-leading personal standard of professionalism, continuing education, and innovation in coaching methodologies.
Programming & Member Engagement
Collaborate with Golf Operations and club leadership to integrate instruction into tournaments, member events, and club-wide initiatives.
Drive participation through thoughtful communication, member engagement strategies, and program visibility.
Junior Golf Development
Lead the Director of Junior Golf to strengthen the junior golf ecosystem, including developmental pathways, competitive training, and year-round programming.
Support the planning and delivery of junior camps, clinics, and coaching programs.
Assist in identifying and mentoring talented junior golfers as they progress through competitive levels.
Leadership & Staff Development
Mentor, train, and support the instructional team, fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and professional growth through various staff development initiatives.
Manage multiple direct reports, including the Teaching Professional, Director of Junior Golf, Associate Teaching Professional, Club Fitter, and Performance Coach; provide mentorship, training, evaluations, and clear performance expectations.
Assist in onboarding new instructors and establishing coaching standards, expectations, and best practices.
Be an ambassador for growing the game by motivating growth in interdepartmental staff development on a daily basis
Provide regular feedback and help guide the professional development and continuing education of the teaching staff.
Operational Management
Help oversee daily operations within the Golf Performance Center to ensure organization, cleanliness, and equipment readiness.
Continue to grow and monitor Golf Performance Center events with staff and membership.
Manage scheduling, lesson bookings, program logistics, and technology usage to optimize efficiency and member experience.
Support the tracking and reporting of instructional metrics, program participation, and revenue generation.
Assist the Head Golf Professional in budgeting while exceeding lesson revenue and club fitting goals
Work with the Senior Director of Coaching in planning, organizing, budgeting, promoting, conducting, scheduling, and developing golfer development programs that meet the needs of the Club
Technology & Innovation
Lead the integration of performance technologies—Swing Catalyst, TrackMan, PuttView, SAM PuttLab—into all coaching services.
Stay current with emerging instructional methodologies, tools, and research, applying them thoughtfully to enhance player development.
Contribute to ongoing innovation within the Golf Performance Center.
Professional Representation
Represent Congressional Country Club within the PGA Section and broader coaching community through engagement, education, and professional involvement.
Uphold the highest standards of professionalism, service, and communication with members, guests, and staff.
Be available at the Club’s premier golf events, including Expo Day, Presidents Cup, Club Championships, Member Guests, as well as outside tournaments run through the PGA of America.
Maintain effective communication with the Senior Director of Coaching, the instruction team, Head Professional, and Director of Athletics.
Assist with training current and future Congressional assistant professionals and interns to provide high quality golf instruction to ensure consistent messages across the teaching team.
Play golf with our members as appropriate, being conscious to play with all demographics and ability levels.
Including, but not limited to, the following:
PGA Class A / LPGA Member in good standing.
Director of Instruction experience at a high-end private club.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
The club will provide a compensation and benefits package commensurate with experience and qualifications. This includes but is not limited to:
Competitive base salary ($60,000 - $70,000 based on experience)
Total compensation: $250,000+
Majority of lesson commissions
