ABOUT THE SECTION

Greensboro, NC | The Carolinas Section of the PGA formed in 1923 and was officially recognized by the PGA in 1940. Today, the Carolinas PGA has grown to be the largest of the PGA’s forty-one sections with more than 2,000 professional members employed at more than 700 golf facilities. Our geographic territory embraces North and South Carolina as well as a small portion of southern Virginia.

The Carolinas PGA is dedicated to nurturing and improving the quality of the game for the thousands of golfers using our member facilities. PGA professionals are responsible for conducting a variety of golf-related functions which include golf shop merchandising, golf instruction, tournament operations, Junior golf programs, golf club repair, administering the Rules, public relations and much more.


THE OPPORTUNITY

The Director of Development is the key liaison for PGA REACH Carolinas philanthropic and strategic development activities including private and corporate trustees/donors. This position shall be responsible for managing and coordinating fundraising efforts while building relationships with key stakeholders including PGA professionals, golf facilities and allied associations. Working with the Executive Director, the Carolinas PGA Board of Directors and section staff, this position serves as the key strategist for PGA REACH Carolinas fundraising to support community outreach.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. /B.S.) required

  • Fundraising experience with foundation, charity, college/university

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of development experience in a development office is preferred

  • Passion for the game of golf. Golf knowledge/experience preferred

  • PGA Member considered a plus, but not required for consideration

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Works with a high degree of independence, keeping the Executive Director aware of all foundation matters.

  • Demonstrated record of success in generating and managing significant commitments/gifts from high-net-worth individuals, corporations and foundations.

  • Must possess an understanding of current philanthropic and public relations interests of individuals, foundations or corporations, acquired through regular contact with those individuals and organizations.

  • Knowledge of the golf industry and PGA of America

  • Interact, collaborate, and build relationships with employees at the PGA of America.

  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information pertaining to donors and foundation affairs.

  • Knowledge and understanding of prospect/donor management systems.

  • A strategic thinker with ability to craft the vision for a progressive philanthropy model.

  • Superior interpersonal, verbal/written communication, public speaking and presentation skills.

  • Commitment to character development values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

  • Values all people for their unique talents and takes an active role in promoting practices that support diversity, inclusion and cultural competence.

  • Skills in planning, organizing and event management.

  • Skills in computer operation, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software applications.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Researches, develops, and executes fundraising initiatives for PGA REACH Carolinas Foundation and its three pillars of (1) youth player development, (2) military initiatives and (3) diversity & inclusion.

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and staff to facilitate PGA REACH Trustee Program and secure new donors.

  • Administer PGA REACH Harvick4Heroes Pro-Am, including securing teams and overseeing online auction. The position will also oversee REACH Pro-Ams affiliated with other section events, state opens, etc.

  • Oversee 100 Holes for HOPE fundraiser and other REACH fundraising events.

  • Responsible for coordinating and managing the relationships of the foundation with corporations, individual donors, contributing members, prospective donors, allied associations, and other non-profit organizations.

  • Responsible for managing, maintaining, and functioning within assigned budgets.

  • Develop a comprehensive communication plan to promote the foundation to its donors and maximize public awareness. Assist staff with stories and management of foundation website and social media platforms.

  • Maintain contact with donors including preparing acknowledgements (tax deductible letters) and quarterly reports.

  • Work in collaboration with other team members to ensure foundation programming is being delivered consistently.

  • Research and apply for charitable grants.

  • Assist CPGA staff, when needed, at PGA REACH events to include PGA Junior League, Drive, Chip & Putt Qualifiers, HOPE events, Annual Meeting/Super Show and CPGA Section tournaments/events as necessary.

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Direct supervisory duties with Section interns and PGA WORKS Fellows as necessary

POSITION/PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:

  • Employee will work remotely from home, but will be required to attend meetings/events/appointments as needed.

  • Employee must live within the borders of the Carolinas Section, and report to the Section Headquarters in Greensboro, NC for certain regularly scheduled meetings and workdays. Prefer candidate to live in a major metropolitan area in the Carolinas.

  • The employee must be able to drive their own vehicle to and from various locations throughout the Section.

  • May be required to work evening and weekends during major campaigns and special events.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. This position must be able to travel for extended periods of time in various modes of transportation.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Starting base salary commensurate with experience

  • February / March 2023 (flexible for right candidate)
