The Carolinas PGA Section (CPGA), located in Greensboro, North Carolina, is one of 41 Sections of the Professional Golfers' Association of America. The PGA of America, formed in 1916, has grown into the world's largest working sports organization with more than 30,000 members and apprentices. Its mission is to promote enjoyment and involvement in the game of golf and to contribute to the game's growth by providing services to golf professionals and the industry As the governing body for some of golf’s most prestigious events, the PGA of America owns and operates tournaments such as the PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup. The CPGA was founded at Greensboro Country Club in 1923 and officially recognized by the PGA of America in 1940. The CPGA consists of approximately 2,300 golf professionals in North Carolina, South Carolina, and a small portion of Virginia.

Title: Assistant Tournament Director
Reports to: Tournament Director
Position Description: The Assistant Tournament Director will assist the Tournament Director with the tournament operations department of the Carolinas PGA Section including all Section-run championships and sanctioned tournaments hosted by the Carolinas PGA Professionals. The Assistant Tournament Director reports directly to the Tournament Director and will serve out of the Carolinas PGA Section office in Greensboro, NC.
Major Championships: Assist with conducting all Section-run championships including but not limited to the Professional Championship, Assistant Professional Championship, Senior Professional Championship, North Carolina Open, South Carolina Open, Carolinas Open, North Carolina Senior Open, South Carolina Senior Open, Carolinas Open, Pro-Official Championship, Pro-Assistant Championship, and Pro-Pro Championship.
PGA TOUR Qualifying: Support of PGA TOUR-related qualifying events including Myrtle Beach Open Qualifying, Wyndham Championship Open Qualifying, UNC Hospital Open Qualifying, SAS Championship Open Qualifying, and any Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying School events.
Other Championships: Assist or manage CPGA Junior Championship, Charles Tilghman Junior Championship, Assistants’ Association tournaments, and three Senior Open Championships.
Rules of Golf/Pace of Play: Serve as Rules Official and organize volunteer Rules Officials at events. Attend USGA/PGA Rules of Golf workshops annually. Enforce CPGA Pace of Play policy as needed at all Section-run tournaments.
BlueGolf: Utilize BlueGolf tournament software to administer all Section-run tournaments.
CPGA Super Show: Assist as needed with all operations of the annual Carolinas PGA Super Show, including on-site registration, education planning, and Merchandise Show coordination.
Marketing & Media: Assist the Director of Marketing as needed in carrying out tournament marketing objectives, including, but not limited to, tournament advertisements, social media posts, website updates, and press releases.
Other Duties as Assigned: The CPGA currently has a full-time staff of 11 employees, two PGA WORKS Fellows, and two seasonal interns. Our team is cross-trained in certain areas to support fellow co-workers.
Including, but not limited to, the following:
Demonstrate strong knowledge of golf and familiarity with the PGA of America
Achieved a USGA Rules of Golf exam score of 80% or higher
Possess a strong desire to make golf administration a career with 3 to 5 years of direct experience with a PGA Section, the PGA of America, or a state/regional golf association
Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills, including effective written and verbal communication abilities
Ability to travel frequently within the CPGA geographic boundaries and work some nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
Experience using tournament management software (preferably BlueGolf) and graphic design tools such as Photoshop or Canva
Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field
Exhibit strong decision-making skills and the ability to handle challenging tournament-related circumstances effectively.
Ability to present self and appearance professionally.
Team player motivated by the success of the organization over any personal gain.
Physical Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is: frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. This position must be able to travel for extended periods of time in various modes of transportation.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and have the stamina to work both indoors and outdoors in cold and hot climates.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
The employee must be able to drive the company vehicle/van and/or drive to and from various locations throughout the Section.

The Section will provide compensation and benefits package commensurate with experience and qualifications. This includes but is not limited to:
Starting salary will be commensurate with experience.
Bonus potential of up to 10% of base salary (tied to performance goals & objectives), a competitive benefit package is also offered including paid vacations, paid holidays, medical, dental, vision, & life insurance, cell phone allowance, laptop computer provided, PGA dues paid (if applicable) and a 3% company-contributed 401k plan. Compensation day (paid time off) policy exists for weekend days worked or long-term travel as approved by the manager.
