Blue Hills Country Club
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI
KANSAS CITY, MO | Since its founding in 1912, Kansas City’s Blue Hills Country Club has seen many changes. Most significant is the club’s location. Originally at 61st and Paseo, Blue Hills Country Club moved to its current address, 777 West Burning Tree Drive, in 1963.
The similarities of the club yesterday and the club of today are much more remarkable than the differences. Blue Hills has always been recognized as one of the finest clubs in Kansas City. For a century, the grounds have been impeccable and the staff highly trained. Friends have laughed and families have gathered to celebrate the most important moments of their lives. The golf course at both locations has presented challenges for players of all levels. World-class golfers speak fondly of their experiences at Blue Hills and jump at the chance to return.
Blue Hills Country Club members have always been a charitable group. They consistently have focused not
only on enjoyment of the club but also on using their platform for society’s greater good. Members exhibited extraordinary generosity and commitment to charity by facilitating the Children’s Mercy Hospital Golf Classic for twenty-five years, beginning in 1980. Joining with hometown links legend Tom Watson, the membership of Blue Hills positively impacted the lives of thousands of Kansas City’s sickest children. It is the legacy of quality and foundation of family that will successfully carry Blue Hills into its second century.
While its members look back with pride, they look forward with excitement and anticipation. As members have been saying confidently since 1912, “It’s going to be a great year at Blue Hills Country Club.”
The challenging golf course layout makes Blue Hills Country Club attractive to many different elite competitions. Blue Hills Country Club has hosted the Korn Ferry Tour AdventHealth Championship since 2019. Notable AdventHealth Champions include Martin Piller, Wesley Bryan, Sepp Straka, and Cameron Young. In addition to hosting some of golf’s best up-and-coming talent on the Korn Ferry Tour, Blue Hills Country Club has hosted the Missouri Amateur Championship more than any other facility in Missouri, most recently in 2013. Blue Hills Country Club annually hosts Central Links Golf/USGA Amateur Championships and Qualifiers and has been on the rotation of courses to host The Watson Challenge, an annual event hosted by Tom Watson to identify the best golfer in Kansas City. Blue Hills Country Club held the AJGA Lockton Kansas City Junior Championship in 2017.
Blue Hills Country Club has enjoyed continuous improvement in recent years. In the Spring of 2022, a state-of-the-art indoor/outdoor teaching and learning center was opened and will bring the opportunity for year-round practice and programming to the Club. A renovation of the Golf Shop is planned in the immediate future, and the next
Head Golf Professional will have significant input on the layout and organization of the new and improved Golf Shop area.
Blue Hills Country Club has had only five Golf Professionals in its 100+ year history. The Club has a reputation for advancing golf professionals to higher level roles with three recent staff assistants serving as either Head Golf Professional, Director of Golf, or Director of Instruction at highly regarded private clubs. The culture at Blue Hills Country Club is one of the hallmarks of the facility. Members say they join the Club for the Championship golf course, welcoming membership, and relaxed culture of interaction with staff and members. Members say they stay at the club long-term because of the relationships they build there.
