ABOUT BENT TREE COUNTRY CLUB

Dallas, TX | Bent Tree Country Club is a private member-owned country club founded in 1972 by former Dallas Mayor Robert S. Folsom. As member-owners of our Club, we are very proud of our history and rich traditions. We have a diverse membership with a passion for family, social, and recreational activities, excellent dining, great golf, superb tennis, active fitness, and fun aquatic and youth programs. We pride ourselves on the camaraderie among one another and our strong ties to our Club. Our Club is uniquely located in North Dallas, right off the Dallas North Tollway, within close proximity to Park Cities, Plano, Richardson, Addison, and Frisco.

Golf Course Architect Desmond Muirhead was hired to design the par 72 golf course in the early 1970’s on 200 acres of what was then cotton fields and pasture land. In the 1800’s, these lands were traveled as part of the Shawnee Trail, which is now Preston Road. Utilizing his knowledge of designing courses in the flat terrain of Florida, Muirhead first carved out the many water features around the course and then used the excavated material to form the elevated tees and greens and to mold the meandering fairways. Over the next few years, multiple species of new trees were added to help define the course flow and to add beauty to the revived cotton farm.

Then, thirty years later, in 2002, the Club’s Board of Directors empowered nationally known architect Keith Foster to rebuild and rework the original blueprint and upgrade Muirhead’s design into a more traditional and timeless layout. The result is a beautiful par 71 course that is highlighted by water features testing players on 14 of the 18 holes, 62 chiseled and brilliant white bunkers that define the driving zones and putting complexes, and exquisite Bentgrass putting surfaces, considered by many, especially our Club members, to be the finest in the Metroplex.   Our beautiful championship golf course is currently a par 71 masterpiece that provides an exceptional golf experience for golfers of every level. The course plays 5603 from the red tees to 7081 from the black tees.

Fun and challenging, the course annually hosts an assortment of member tournaments for men, women, couples, and juniors.  In addition, it has gained the respect of the LPGA by hosting their Mary Kay Classic for three years, as well as the PGA Senior Tour, by hosting the Reunion Pro-Am for three years, and the Bank One Championship for two years. In 2014, Bent Tree Country Club hosted the Women's Texas State Amateur Championship and the following year hosted the Men's Texas State Amateur Championships, as well as amateur events including the Texas Women’s Open, Men’s Texas Mid-Amateur, and the U. S. Open Qualifying.  Champions like Tom Watson, Larry Nelson, Jan Stephenson, Don January, Orville Moody, and many others add Bent Tree Country Club to their impressive list of tour site wins.

Our Club’s Golf operation has garnered many awards and honors under the direction of David Price, Head Professional. David is a renowned professional who has served and co-chaired rules officials for all the major tournaments held in the U.S. and abroad. Among his various awards and recognitions, David has been the Professional of the Year by the PGA of America, holds the honor of being a member of the PGA Golf Hall of Fame, and the Texas Golf Hall of Fame. Our golf operation has also graduated 17 head golf professionals under his tutelage. 

Not far from the success of golf is the tennis operation at Bent Tree Country Club under the direction of its Director, Chris Gale. This top-of-the-class operation has hosted tennis professionals like Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Arthur Ashe, Dennis Ralston, and Dick Stockton. Our indoor tennis courts have a unique presence in the city of Dallas and are a popular venue for our members and guests. 

Early in its development, Bent Tree Country Club was envisioned not only as an exclusive family-oriented club, but also one that would attract the business and community leaders of Dallas as members. That vision has come true. Bent Tree can boast of chairmen and presidents from many of the Fortune 500 businesses, athletic figures from football to golfing greats, among several of the past mayors of Dallas and many others that make up the tapestry of the Bent Tree membership.
