Big Canyon Country Club opened for play on May 5, 1971 and is an 18-hole private club in Newport Beach, California. Known as the most prestigious private and invitation only club in the United States. The championship golf course that has hosted 15 state, regional, and national championships. Designed by Desmond Muirhead and built by The Irvine Company. The course measures 6919 yards and has a 136-slope rating and 74.1 course rating. Both greens and fairways use Bermuda grass and are opened year-round for play. Inside the 70,000 SQ FT clubhouse, members have access to three dining areas, a wine cellar, and a personalized Master Sommelier. The Wellness Center offers everything Members need for their mind, body, and soul, and their health and well-bring. Spa services offer two treatment rooms for massage therapy and facials. An intimate salon for hair and nail services help to add a fine touch to the many recreation amenities offered.

Title: Head Professional
Reports to: Director of Golf
Supervises: Assistant Professionals, Golf Shop Service and Guest Services Staff
Position Concept: This newly structured Head Golf Professional career opportunity at a prestigious club will innovate an exciting future where the club’s programming is highly regarded in the industry. This integral position is responsible for assisting the Director of Golf with the supervision of the entire golf operations, personnel, and operations of the golf facility, lesson programming, and overall management of golf tournaments while working cooperatively with other departments. This role must have a proven understanding of program development, creation, and execution and have a keen ability to balance operations and member interaction as the face of the operations.
Prioritized Keys to Successful Performance:
Must be a creative, forward-thinker golf professional who be the representative for the youth golf program and can create and implement lesson programs. The club’s immediate goal is to elevate its youth golf programming to become highly regarded in Newport Beach, CA
This role will be the support the member interaction at all tournaments at the club.
Proven track record of program creation that provide opportunities from incremental to whole growth as a golfer. Programs should address technique, fitness, strategy, psychology, equipment, etc. and be presented in a variety of mediums (clinics, videos, written). Programs should include assistance from PGA Staff whenever possible.

Cooperate with Director of Golf to create an instructional brand for the club. Groom PGA staff to become better instructors and to create a more consistent instructional experience for BCCC membership.
Team should eventually be completing a training module of the own design that provides the framework for a consistent execution.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Previous education, training and/or work experience to perform the duties shown above
Valid California driver’s license
Able to work full time 40 hours per week
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., performing physical activities that require moving ones whole body, such as in reaching, stooping, climbing, lifting, balancing, and walking
Ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects
Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects
Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs
Able to work outside in unprotected cold, wind, rain, damp, or hot weather
Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with other employees, club members, and guests
Flexible availability as needed to support golf course operations
Maintain PGA of America membership in good standing in an active classification
Experience at similar facilities with a track record of success in providing service
in a high-volume environment
High level of knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations
Expert supervisory practices and principles
Act as a role model for all employees by demonstrating the behavior and work ethic expected of all employees
Strong organizational, time management, planning, and prioritization skills
Service and customer focused attitude
Experienced computer user familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel and proficient in other applications, i.e. email, text message, tournament, and database software
Attend conferences, workshops, meetings, and trade shows to keep abreast of marketing and business trends as approved by the Head Golf Professional
Maintain a credible golf game and represent the Club in professional events
Manage an innovative tournament program that services all customer segments, maintaining the high level of interest and excitement surrounding the tournament program
Communicate regularly through multiple channels (including email, text, and social media) with all segments of the membership to ensure up to date information and promotion of golf events and offerings
Work closely with Director of Golf to ensure Golf Committee’s vision and expectations are being met or exceeded
Respond accurately and efficiently to member needs and requests, maintaining a consistently high level of member satisfaction
Understand the desires and expectations of the membership by keeping an accurate ‘pulse’ on the Club and evolve all programming and service levels as demand changes
Prioritize building relationships with members on an individual basis, therefore improving the ‘member experience’ and creating connection with the Club
Plan and execute golf outings to meet budgeted expectations
Play golf with a variety of members on a regular basis both at the Club and in Pro-Am events
Develop and maintain a high-level of teaching and coaching skills to benefit all levels of players
Administer the Rules of Golf and educate staff.
Manage Golf Shop payroll budget
Assist the Retail Manager and support their role as buyer and administrator
Maintain the necessary systems utilizing POS to safeguard inventories and cash
Establish accurate recordkeeping policies and procedures
Maintain an attractive and orderly appearance in and around the golf shop
Conduct accurate and timely inventory counts
Work cohesively with the People and Culture team to ensure effective framework and team development.
Recruit, train, motivate, and supervise all golf shop staff and maintain accurate payroll records.
Act as a mentor and coach to Assistant Professionals, providing guidance and support to achieve both facility and individual goals
Update and maintain golf shop policies and procedures and job descriptions and ensure they are adhered to
Ensure all applicable staff are trained and educated in club policies, golf rules and the calendar of events, able to answer questions in such areas in a timely and accurate fashion
Maintain safety standards that meet Club requirements, prioritizing the safety and health of all staff, members, and guests.
Adhere to, enforce, and implement policies and procedures of the facility as well as the Club’s Rules and Regulations
Ensure systems controls are in place to safeguard assets, revenues, and resources
In keeping with facility goals, utilize yield management techniques to maximize course usage
Work closely with all department heads to achieve the goals and objectives of the facility
Maintain a close working relationship with the Golf Course Superintendent, Head Golf Professional, and Director of Wellness and provide advice on course playability and tournament set up
