Robotics is a fun and exciting way to learn, make new friends, and apply engineering skills through robotics. VEX Robotics Competition is similar to being on a sports team: it takes time and commitment. HHS Robotics membership is open only to students in the Engineering and Computer Science pathways.
Space on the robotics team is limited. Because of the high demand for a limited number of spots, students are expected to demonstrate responsibility, maturity, and the ability to follow all directions from the student team leaders and coaches. HHS Robotics members are expected to:
Pay required membership dues.
Attend meetings regularly.
Participate positively in club activities.
Follow school rules, club rules, and the VEX Robotics rules as specified in the current season’s game manual.
Treat teammates, advisors, volunteers, judges, and competitors with respect.
A basic robotics team is made up of six to seven members and includes the following roles: team leader, strategy lead, mechanical lead, and controls lead. Teams use the VEX Robotics V5 system to build and control the robots.
The team Leader is responsible for managing and documenting the team's design process.
The strategy lead is overall responsible for explaining how the robot will be used to score points.
The mechanical lead is overall responsible for turning the team's conceptual design into a physical, competition-ready robot.
The control lead is overall responsible for developing the autonomous code for the robot and assembling and maintaining the control system.
During the first two weeks of the school year, a mandatory club interest meeting will be held to test and evaluate all potential team members. This session will outline membership prerequisites, such as required training, work hours, regulations, and competition guidelines. To assist in selecting members, a test will be administered as part of the meeting.
If you are interested in joining, attend the mandatory club interest meeting. The meeting date will be posted on the billboard outside the Engineering room (B109).
