TEA's Eligibility Criteria for a Special Administration of an Online Assessment
✔️Accommodation cannot be applied online
Example: a student requires braille materials
✔️Medical emergency during STAAR testing dates, DTC requests approval during window
✔️Unable to participate in one domain of TELPAS
Example: a student communicates with eye blinks and cannot be assessed by an online speaking assessment (TELPAS)
✔️Technology access precluded
Example: a student is participating in an assessment in a setting, such as homebound, that does not offer reliable internet access
Example: a student is precluded by a court order from accessing the internet
Request a Special Administration of an Online Assessment
Requests are due no later than January 22, 2024. A request should be submitted by a campus staff member who has attended State Assessment Accessibility training in October.
Attend the January 11 Work Session if you have questions or need assistance with a request for a special administration. Find more information on the "Trainings & Security" menu above. Click "Trainings & Security."
In very rare circumstances, a student may not be able to access an online assessment. This request is typically for students who do not have a PfISD Chromebook and do not use another personal electronic device due to a significant special need.
The following special administrations are available to eligible students:
STAAR paper administration
TELPAS Reading paper administration
TELPAS Listening, Speaking, Writing holistic administration
Be aware:
🚫A special administration will not be approved because a student knows very little English.
🚫A special administration will not be approved because a student has limited exposure to computers.
🚫A special administration will not be approved because another mode is preferred.
The submission of an accommodation request is NOT an automatic approval. In order for TEA to make determinations about requests for these types of accommodations, indicate below where this accommodation information is documented. Please remember that assessment accommodations that require TEA approval should be documented as pending TEA decision until a determination is provided.
This rationale for this request may NOT include any personal identification information. Do not use the student's name, medical diagnosis or other identifying information in the rationale sections of this form.
