Every year, the Texas Library Association creates a list of 20 great books for 6th-8th graders to read. Students in PfISD can read a book on the current list for thier summer reading project. All students are encouraged to read titles from the list, although it's important to note that not all books might be suitable for all students.
Every year all of the middle schools in Pflugerville ISD select a title to ALL READ and then pass to our friends. The title is great for 6th - 8th graders and leads to book discussions and fun activities. Each library hosts an event in the Spring for all students who participate in Read It Forward by reading the book. Watch for the announcement of this year's title.
Titles from past years include:
New Kid, Ghost, Refugee, House Arrest, The Great Green Heist, and The False Prince.
The library hosts multiple clubs during and after school. Not all clubs meet for the entire year and not all clubs form/meet each year. Here are some clubs the library has hosted in the past:
3D Printer Club - An after school club where students learn to create 3D designs using Tinkercad and print items on our Bambu Lab X1 Carbon printer.
Coding Club - An after school club where students work in small groups and use Hummingbird Robotics Kits and recyclables to create things that do things. It's awesome!
Crochet Club - Students meet after school for a few weeks to learn the basics of crocheting. Yarn and crochet hooks are provided.
Embroidery Club - Meeting after school for a few weeks, students learn the basics of hand embroidery.
Lunch time book clubs - Meeting once a week during all three lunches, students can eat in the library and talk about what books they're reading.
Magic the Gathering Club - Students meet after school for a few weeks to learn about the card game Magic the Gathering (MTG). Cards are provided and students get to create decks to keep. They learn how to make a deck and how to play the game.
Sewing Machine Club - Meeting after school for a few weeks, students learn the basics of using a sewing machine to create items like a drawstring pouch and turn a t-shirt into a pillow!
