This approach links the Pomodoro technique and Apps which stop you looking at your phone
The Pomodoro Technique
This is named after a tomato shaped timer.
It is simply a way to ensure you focus for short periods of time, have breaks and then get back to learning.
Nic's version
Split the task into smaller chunks which are achievable in 25 minutes.
Try to create smart objectives, then you will now if you've been successful.
These Apps have a timer function, and if you allow the timer to play out, you'll grow a tree. Fiddle with your phone and the tree will die!
You can still listen to music and podcasts on your phone.
Forest is free for Android phones and Flora free for iPhone.
Make sure you have everything you need around you, you will distract yourself if you decide you need to get your special pen.
Start by setting the timer on the App for 15 minutes and build up to no more than 45 minutes over time.
No excuses, you've got this.
Have a 5 minute break.
Go outside, make a cup of tea.
Do this 3 or 4 times and then have a longer break.
