Welcome to Math 1 Fall 2020!
I am looking forward to being your teacher this year! We will be starting out with Distance Learning, so this letter is geared towards details you will need to know. Updated information can be found at the Math 8 website, specific information for this course on the Math 1 page. https://sites.google.com/petk12.org/math8pjhs/general-information.
Fortunately, our textbook is online. We will be using CPM: Core Connections, Integrated 1. As soon as you receive your Chromebook, please go to http://enroll.cpm.org and enroll in the class.
The enrollment code for Ms. Garvey is BAQSN.

Course Objectives: This course will follow the Common Core Standards for High School Mathematics. These standards are integrated topics including Algebra, Geometry, and Statistics. This course prepares you for additional high school math and science coursework. It emphasizes understanding for the college bound student.
General Expectations: Students will be expected to attend class via Zoom. This is not optional. Appropriate preparation and behavior will be the norm. Students will be graded on Participation, Classwork and Homework, and periodic Assessments. Homework will need to be completed and corrected before the next class. Solutions will be provided 24 hours after class. No late work will be accepted unless you are ill.
Homework will be graded with the following rubric:
5 - Problems have been copied, work is shown, corrections are made.
4 - Problems have been copied, work shown, but no corrections.
Google Classroom: All assignments, work submission, and scores will be on Google Classroom. Frequent correspondence from your teacher, including homework solutions, video links, and any additional documents, will also be found there. Grades will also be entered into Aeries.
Supplies: You will need the following supplies:
Pencils and erasers (all math work must be done in pencil)
One Notebook (or binder paper) for classwork- a notebook with graph paper is helpful. Some students also like to have a notebook for homework as well.
Graph paper
Colored pencils
Ruler or straight edge
We will supply you with the Resource Pages, and any other handouts, at the start of each chapter. You do not need to have access to a printer for this course, but the pages will be made available online if you need to print extra copies.
Remember, this is a work in progress! As we all are aware, things may change, and we will adjust as the semester moves on. And of course I look forward to welcoming you to my classrooms at some point in the near future!
